ScottSound
Hi to you all Im Scott from derby iv had 4 dtr 125 iv now got a red and black 88/89 one. So I start from the beginning I bought the bike £850 from Portsmouth £150 RENT A VAN AND FUEL to get it back to derby 4-5 months ago,b4 I even did 100 miles the engine went bang !! So got it to the motorbike shop.Think It was a top end rebuild new piston, rings I had a new battery and my rev cable snapped too so new 1 of them.spent around £270.00 every think was fine for about a week then it went Bang again. So back to the shop I went this time the oil pump fail so needed a new pump and I thought Go for it its an old bike So this time a full engine rebuild cost me around £400 Guttered .Well got the call the bike was reddy so I picked it up.As I road off the bike did not feel good at all but thought it was just the engine that neederd braking in.Anyways did 20 miles and it just cut out on me.I thought id take a look this time cus by now id got a haynes manual and a 300 peace tool kit turns out oil/petrol mix(spark plug caked in oil) too rich so back to the shop thay reset the oil pump gave me the call so off I went again.Still cutting out after 20-25 miles same problem. This time I rang the shop and told them what I think & took the bike back pretty much chuck it at them not happy ...I got the call come get yer bike SO OFF I WENT AGAIN !! this time I pulled off It felt like a Dt125r I was happy & about time too. This was all around November time.So every thinks good just braking the engine in and my wheels and brakes start to seize up,But I got my haynes out and my new 300 peace tool kit and figerd out how to rebuild front and back brakes/wheels.after beating out the rear spindle with a lump hammer then spending £10 on hack saw blades to chop the spindle where the threading was lol then £12 on ebay for a second hand rear spindle .So every think ok again.that was the start of jan.THIS IS WHAT IV BEEN BUILDING UP TO. Ok the bike was starting fine in the cold and the snow but Friday night after work I locked it up went to bed didn't use bike Sataday so been standing in the cold and snow but yesterday Sunday went to start it first kick I new sommit was wrong it did a bit of backfiring a few kicks in then it started :)ticking over nice for a bout a min as I got gloves and helmet on then cut out I change the spark plug and its not that. The plug is wet with fuel so I know fuels getting in there.WHEN U KICK THE BIKE U CAN HEAR THE SPARK NOISE LIKE WHEN U HAVE YOUR SPARK PLUG OUT AND ITS TOUCHING THE FRAME.So Im thinking its the wiring/electric.I really carnt afford to take it back to the shop iv spend too much on this bike all reddy. Can any1 help me ?? my spelling and grammar is pretty poor So iv done my best to get as much info as I can In words. If any1 can help but unsure what i meen plz get back too me and I will get the dictionary out. My plan is to get a shed (So It wont have to stay out doors) and so I can strip the bike sandblast/powder coat(witch ever 1 u do lol ) just get the bike looking like the day it left the shop in 88 lol (with pic's and stuff step by step to post on hear to help others) Thats my dream for the summer but its starting to manifest its self as a nightmare . Thanks for taking time to read looking forward to seeing what all u Foke's have to say P.s Im new and never done anythink like this b4 GO EASY ON MEEEE ScottSound
Moderator DirtyDT Posted January 21, 2013 Moderator Share Posted January 21, 2013 Hi Scott. Welcome to the forum. It sounds like the HT lead (the thick one from the coil to the spark plug is earthing. First thing to do is see if you can see where the spark is coming from. Get a friend to kick it over while you look at the lead. Check the spark plug cap is tight one the HT lead - they screw in. Take the spark plug cap off, cut 10mm of the HT lead and rescrew the spark plug cap on. Change the plug and spark plug cap. Work things in this order and check after each suggestion. That should keep you busy for a while but come back and tell us either way if you cure it or need more advice. If you have a manual and the guidance from this forum you may be able to keep away from dealers for a long while except for the MOT.

ScottSound
How's the weather ?? In the Midlands not too good So not had a chance to Get the new tool kit out. Iv had a quick try with cutting 10mm from the H.T but no luck. But before I did that I Roped my bro into kicking her over in the snow just to see if I could see any spark's outa place,But there wasn't . I'm hoping the weather clear's up for Saturday gotta feeling its not gonna, still finger's crossed. I could replace the hole coil and H.T ?? seen a few on E-Bay between £12-£20 but that's just me having a wild guess. BIG ONE LOL I'm not convinced that will solve the problem.Because Iv have absolutely no idea how the electrical system work's Yet. But I'm gonna try and figure this puzzle out So Is anyone snowed in ?.
