I am a newbe to the Forum...

I hope someone can help. My son has a 55 plate DTR 125, I brought some Dunlop K550's in July this year. He has done about 1650 miles to and from work, no off road and I have noticed that the rear tyre has worn to the wear indicator, the front is like new.

Could someone tell me if this is normal and how many miles do you get out of a rear tyre. The garage told me they are only good for 2,000 miles, at £90 a go its not cheap!

K550s are off-road tyres. They are not designed for primarily tarmac commuting. If he's only using it on the road, I'd suggest looking at some proper road tread tyres.

My first question.......

Skid stops and wheelspin? 1600 mile to knakerd has had abuse. You can get supersport tyres for R1's and they do that kind of mileage.

My dt175 is good for 6000miles normal use. With care that could go as high as 8.

Hell my tdr250 has done twice that (3000mls) on its bridgestones and they are only just starting to go off.

Dunlop K550's are on road tyres. I would expect 5k to 6k miles from the rear..........................................unless he has been up to what Cynic said above.

Cheers for all your reply's. The supplier did tell me they are ok for road use.... I'm not to sure. I'm sure you are right, there is some showing off when he is with his mates! could anyone suggest decent road tyres.?

I have Conti TKC80's on the TS250.

Cant fault the bridgestones i have. I have been using trail wing 301/302 for years. Used em in all weathers on and off road.

Really good all round dirt bike tyre, you will get 8 to 10 k from a front and at least 6 from a rear. Too.

Avon distanzias are a good choice. I used to get at least 3000 miles from dedicated offroad tyres such as the ac10 so god knows what hes doing to get such low mileage!
