XS Master Cylinder question

I've just started working on a 1980 XS650SE that I picked up last weekend and amongst it's many problems is the clear part of the front brake master cylinder has turned a strange opaque white colour! I've never seen one go like this before, does anyone know if it can be restored or do I have to track down a replacement?

    usually a replacement. I managed to get one from a guy in Derbyshire who made a batch of them.

    I suppose modern cnc can knock one up out of nylon in no time.
