picked up the r6 shock from Kais today.

looks a nice job and he's put a 100nm/mm spring in. they said they'll set it up for me and will also redo the valving if its not enough.

anyway here's the shock

the chain rubbed on the gas reservoir so i had to do a bit of grinding. was a bit scary, but i took the plastic cap off and there's loads of room in there so its all done now

well its more or less done, engine turns over and electrics seem to work.

couldn't really do that much today as it persisted it down. So next job is to prime the engine, run a temp fuel line and fire her up/balance the carbs

need to relocate the horn and do a bit of snagging and then tax her and  MOT is due end August.

drewpy, what you use to paint the engine and all those stuffs that get hot?

its called VHT (very high temperature) Paint the crinkle finish paint is from Frost £10 and I recommend PJ1 off ebay, its expensive but is the best finish out of all the paints and doesn't need a primer. bake it afterwards (or run engine) to cure it.

How's it going Drew?

its not!

got some running issues;

Starts quickly with no choke and then picks up all the cylinders but have to use 1/4 throttle to do this
high RPM when warmed
won't rev over 6k and makes a funny noise if I push the issue

spark plugs suggest rich mix before carbs rebuilt, no air leaks

I'm just wondering if the skimming has affected the running ie too high compression or I've mistakenly didn't do the valve timing correctly (checked and double checked through during install)

anyone comes across this or give me some pointers please?

had the carbs just rebuilt and setup by NRP so no issues there.

compression check next and probably recheck valve timing and gaps

might have to go on the tracker, which is running great :)

You've still got time, wish I could be more help but you know a hell of alot more than I do when it comes to this sort of thing, I'm shure you'll work it out

I'm thinking TCI now, got 2 spares to try and I'll double check cams etc.

Is it not worth a performance ig unit with all the other work done?

Seems a pretty common failure, the fact you have 2 spares speaks volumes.

I have to agree, with the carbs deemed as spot on then ig would give the black plugs firing way too early or late giving a bad sooty burn. Or even worse some firing early others late.

one was for the issue I was having last year and the second coz it was only £10.

well I've finally sussed it. As usual it was a few things;

1) the exhaust cam was 1 tooth out
2) A few valve gaps were out of specs (poss due to the head bedding down)
3) re torqued the head down and it took another 1/2 turn to get the necessary torque

thanks for your input fellas!

it revs out and so much better :yay:

the engine is a '91 xj600 in an Fz600 chassis.
