Grouch Posted October 27, 2012 Share Posted October 27, 2012 I have just come back from Tesco where I spotted Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T OIL on offer for £3 a litre! The only problem is the oil is 10w40 and my bike takes 10w30. There was about 30 litres, and as I am going to change my oil regularly from now on I really could do with buying the lot. Will it make a difference if I use 10w40 instead of 10w30? Please can someone explain it to me. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nayruf Posted October 27, 2012 Share Posted October 27, 2012 Hi I would not worry about using 10w40 oil over 10w30 oil providing it is the correct oil for the task i.e.: motorcycle engine oil. In fact the 10w40 oil will function over a wider temperature spread, so it should retain its protection/lubrication/cleaning, properties for longer If you do an internet search for kinematic oil comparisons, you will find some listings for various comparison tables. they will explain it far better than I can, Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Grouch Posted October 27, 2012 Author Share Posted October 27, 2012 The last thing I need is a slower bike, it is as slow as it is I might just buy 4 litres as I am selling the bike in March, I have just paid £10 a litre for the same oil (power 1 racing) and that was cheap. Tesco have reduced it from £12 odd. I'll buy 4 litres and that will take me up until March, I've only just changed the oil. I think the oil youve got is fully synthetic though, this has been known to cause clutch slippage on some bikes. A semi synth would be more suitable for your bike imo.
