Grouch
Well I finally got round to doing an oil change on my little XT. It went pretty smoothly apart from the last bolt on the sump guard threading, (surprise fookinf surprise!). I lost my rage and just hammered the fooker off, it was badly corroded anyway. I have just bought a new one from eBay, so my bike won't be sumpless for long. I filled her up with nice new Castrol and it looked really nice and clean as I poured it in. The old oil I removed was very black and a little thick. There was no sludge or flakes in it, so the engine is fine. I'm doing it every three months from now on. Hopefully I can notice a positive change in the bike as well. The guy who had the bike previously probably put some £2 a litre crap in it. Only problem I have now is disposing of the old oil, I'll have to take it to a waste centre.
Moderator Cynic Posted October 24, 2012 Moderator Share Posted October 24, 2012 I have a 25l tub just for old vehicle fluids. Once its 3/4 full i take it to the tip. Everything goes in from chip fat to brake fluid. Chuck it into the engine oil drum at the community tip. Bring said 25l tub home and repeat.
