Generator rota removal

Hi

I have another posting about the problems I am having with my engine exchange but I dont seem to be getting any direct advise I am chating with another member who is great with pratical advise thank you. But need answers to some questions, Do I need to drill out the headless bolts to remove the generator rota my old one had alen key bolts simple removel. I need to change it as i have an older engine without the imisions package. Why is so difficult to just change engines was I stung by the bloke who sold me the engine will it run in my frame and with my electrics. And does anyone know why finding information for the XT125x is so frigin hard does anyone repair them I have found nothing no youtbe video's no tuturials no question and answer pages nothing thought at least you guys might be able to help.

I am begining to loose faith in the Yamaha sean

dont know the bike sean so without pictures i myself am a bit stuck fella

You've just had some bad luck and it seems like you have been ripped off. Post some pics and as much info as you can and I'm sure someone on the forum will be able to help you.

I cant the garage have got it and are trying to get it off it just seems weird that Yamaha would build an engine that you cant split just dont make sense without partly destroying the rota. I was just concerned that the garage was reading to much into the removel and all that is needed was to get the right pulley. Maybe someone has a manual that they can look at for me I have a manual but its not a Haynes its a Colby I think its some foreign company as I bought the bike from a Polish guy it is in English but very basic and no pictures.

Agreed, there shouldnt be any destruction going on to remove a rotor theres normally a recessed thread in the rotor to accept a puller!

It may be a blind thread in the rotor.

Lock the front sprocket in gear and if there are a couple of smallish round holes in it it may just unscrew.

I have done it I changed the engine, I faced each challenge that this piece of metal thru at me and I think I came out a better man, I had to get a garage to remove the generator rota at a cost of £100 I had too I did not have the correct tools and set of good pullers that I would have only used once would have been close to a £100 so it made sense to get someone else to do it.I would however suggest that if you have to go to a garage you choose one that specialises in bikes, I went to my local garage who I must admit have some very good mechanics they specialise in high end cars Audi BMW Range Rover and the odd Ferrari but my little 125 engine was out of there safety zone and so they was a little apprehensive to take on the challenge and I had to keep pushing for it to be done, but they got it sorted in the end. I would like to thank Grouch even though he did not give me any direct advice on the challenges I posted he kept me going and gave me hope when I needed it and DT502001 he had some good tips. After I got it all together and checked and double checked the pipes fitting and bolts I turned it over and it started first time not bad for someone who has never really picked up a spanner oops wrench before.

Oh and the headless bolts well on the newer engine the starter ring this is the bit that when you engage your starter motor has a ring of offset bearings that grip the big end (crank) drive and so rotate the engine until it starts but here is the clever part as the bearings are off set when the engine starts the starter ring disengages itself from the big end and so does not burn out the starter motor cool what, well this is reversed on the new engine so the Allen bolts are housed inside and on the reverse of the generator rota different on the old one these are visible from the top and so can be undone, so the headless bolts was just the end of the Allen bolts and so did not need drilling out they come off with the rota as one unit again a bike garage would have known this.

Well that’s me done now if anyone is having problems I hope this post helps show that if you keep going you will get there in the end and it can be done. And sometimes you may come get some patronising quotes and silly remarks (you know who you are) on this site but there are some good guys that really do want to help.

Cheers, I am glad you have overcome the problem. I know how frustrating and dis-heartening it is when your bike is in a state of dis-repair. Now your engine is sorted your bike will be trouble free more or less, apart from routine maintenence, and I'm very certain you will not regret buying an XT. If I was you I would make the most of the weekend and go out for a long ride.
