YBR 125 2011 Model - In need of parts.

Hey People!

So. Crashed by YBR125 on Sunday. My own stupid fault and i am in turmoil about it.

Took the bike to my dealer (Keys Motorcycles) on Monday after asking if they could look at it (presuming they meant that day)

It is now Thursday and they have still yet to give me a sodding estimate. Only that its "not going to be a straight forward repair"

Ive been told that i need to go down there on Saturday to tell them what i want/dont want fixing on the bike, even though when i dropped the bike off on Monday i said i wanted the BARE MINIMUM done to get it back on the road.

Anyway, my actual question is...

As the dealers are taking the royal piss with just sorting me out an estimate, im not going to deal with them at all unless i ABSOLUTELY have to in the future (official servicing etc..)

Does anyone know of a good/reliable source for YBR parts? All i can seem to find on the internet are 2005-2008 models and they are all slightly varied in design. (mine is 2011)

Ive yet to get a full parts break down from the mechanic as apparently the "Yamaha systems are down" But so far i think i will need:-

Front Forks (possibly)

Wheel & Tyre (front)

Headlight

Right hand Indicator

Right hand Mirror

Handle Bar

Speedo/Rev

And thats about it at the moment. If i get more detailed info from the mech, il edit my post.

HI Scott, just saw a set of bars on fleabay number is "Item number: 400288112414" supposed to be BNIB at the moment only 15 quid! :jossun: Plus loads of other bit's and bob's for your year always worth a look.

Thanks for that! Il keep my eye on that.

As for the estimate - £1,593.78 - thats more than half of the OTR price for the bike. Plus i am only on 3PF&T (cos im a dick like that) so im shit out of luck.

i have no idea what to do now.

Here is what ehey have stated needs replacing. Bare with me as ive had the list faxed over and their printer isnt great so its not come out on my printer all that clear.

Check the estimate as they often quote ex VAT and labour at cost so this may just be the parts costs without the VAT.

By the sounds of it you need a complete new front end.

Hi again Scott, Most of that stuff you can do your self, ball races and such are usually knock out knock in, new wheel, well they are out there in the net at a lot cheaper price and some even come with a good tyre on them, oil seals seem a bit strange, did you damage the engine or are they the ones on the bearings? Christ mate you really did a number on your poor little bike didn't you, as DT says sounds like a complete front end, might be possible to pick one up from a breaker at a lot less money and fit it yourself. Try to find out if a front end off another bike a year or two older will fit on your bike, they are usually the same just updates on the shiny bits mostly, ask your local dealer what the difference between your bike and a slightly older one is and see if you can save yourself some money. good luck mate. :jossun:

P S I think the one in bold MIGHT be RETAINER for the ball race in the head stock, not sure about that tho.

MRR - as far as i am aware, most of the damage was frontal and the engine started when i was pushing it somewhere to store overnight. But there might be damage to the engine. The mechanics haven't mentioned that there is either.

I took a few photos after it happened. il try and get them on here for you guys to look at

And the verdict is that im probably going to try the repairs myself. i cant afford that bill right off the bat and thankfully that estimate included vat at labour.

Il let you know how im getting on with it and im sure il be back asking questions!

Okay so if anyone is interested in an update about my bike -

Had some friends come look at it the other day and they seem to think i can get away with just replacing a few parts (thank fook!). Seems like the Dealers Estimate of nigh on £1,600.00 was a bit overzealous!

So parts have been ordered, 2nd hand parts though (apart from the clocks) - all in all about £350!

Should have the bike back on the road by the end of next weekend! (after all the parts arrive!)

Good to hear you got it sorted mate. I was going to say, the shop would probably want to replace every single thing that has a mark on to get as much money out of you as possible. Unfortunately some people are like that. Good luck with the repairs!

NIce one Scott, good to hear that your going to do it your self, thought that the estimate was a bit OTT as soon as I saw your photo, suggest that the machanic was looking to make a bit of cash from the insurance company. Good luck with your repairs. :jossun:

I think the mechanic was looking to swindle me of cash as i told them im having to pay for the repairs myself.

Oh well, i brought the bike from them, plus accessories so was i in the wrong to think that they would "look after" me?

But upon reading reviews of the Dealers online, im probably going to find another official Yamaha dealer to conduct the services etc..

Does anyone know what will happen to the warranty that comes with the bike if i fit 2nd hand parts to it? Im guessing it will be void?

Hi Scott, Don't think your warranty will be void if you put 2nd hand parts on as long as they are the same or better quality, so just make sure you use the best you can afford and that they are as near as dammit identical to the original then there should be no worries, also have a word with the warranty company (not the seller) and ask them what is acceptable in the way of repacement, they might ask for a mechanical report to verify that the parts are fitted correctly and of correct standard and as long as you have ticked all the right boxes you should be fine, fitted a larger engine some years ago and was asked to supply a report that the work was done in the correct way and was of "SOUND WORKMANSHIP" whatever the fuck that means? as I did it myself, but they said it was ok so no worries. Good luck with your repairs and take your time and DON'T rush at it and you should be fine and have a few more skill's in repairing your bike. :jossun:

Thanks MRR. I will look in to the warranty! Im doing the repairs with help from some buddies who know what they are doing. One of them just redone the front end on his bike so should be straight forward.

All im replacing is the Clocks, Indicator, Headlight, Wheel and tyre

Now i need to get a replacement lid as i cant really use mine again.

Slightly off topic for this area but:- What is a good Helmet brand? Ive been looking at Arai but they are just too freaking expensive. I like the look of Shoei but just want to ask if there are any good brands that dont charge the earth to protect your noggin?!

Hi Scott, nice to have some help when repairing your bike means you can blame someone else when some thing falls off. I see your lid only seems to have the odd scratch or 2 on the visor & chin guard, might be worth while keeping it if it's not had a bang on the main part of the helmet as the chin guard is not structural to the helmet but if your determined to change it then the ARAI are good helmets althought they are expensive, I have never really uinderstood the need for really expensive helmets as most times when you fall off it's at a fairly slow speed, if you fall off at a hundred plus a top of the range helmet is just going to be good for identification of the body :biglaugha: :biglaugha: . Go down to your local bike shop and try on all their helmets until you find one that is comfortable and you can live with, believe me an ugly comfortable helmet is far better than a racy painted uncomfoirtable lid on a long journey, I use a flip front job as I'm an old fart who remembers when you didn't have to wear a helmet at all, which made falling off much more scary than it is now. Once again good luck with your repairs and only do what you understand and ask advice BEFORE you take on some thing that might be beyond your skill level we all have to learn as we go on so do one job at a time and you should be fine. :jossun:

Ref Helmets, as a guide I used the following site to help with a purchase but MRR has given the best advise really..

(although regarding flip fronts and half helmets, judging by your accident one of those would not have helped you much - of course no-one should be riding with a flip front up 'they' say!).

Hey people!

So, Bike is back on the road, got it done a bout two weeks ago. Got a new helmet too, a Box helmet, although it doesnt appear to be as good as my previous cheaper Viper lid.

Oh well - thats besides the point.

Since getting the bike back on the road, ive noticed that the bike seems to have either lost some power or something is up with the engine. I dont know exactly. It could be something simple like, since ive had the bike back, we have had some pretty bad weather so it could be riding in to the wind that is slowing the bike down.

But ive noticed that before the crash, on my ride to work i could get my bike up to about 80mph (this was downhill and haunched down like a boss). Now on the same route, same strip of road, i was struggling to get to 70mph this morning. Also, before the crash i used standard Unleaded and now since talking to the guys that helped out with the bike, ive started using the higher octane Unleaded so could it be that? It just seems like there is no "umph" at top end revs. (well, its not a big engine so less "umph" than before) :(

Hi Scott

I've had a crappy experience with Keys as well, it cost me about £300 cause I wanted an official service and a stamp in my service record. Since I missed the first 2 (1 was free apparently but don't remember being told about it, its just a tire kick) they took the money and told me it was no longer under warranty and that i couldn't get any more official servicing from them, all they did was change a tire and the chain (and the oil, little things) so waste of time.

About your question, I've been riding my ybr for about a year and half and i notice that on windy days it just seems to loose power like that. I've only ever managed 75 going down hill, maybe it wasn't a big enough hill, but yeah if its windy and pissin it down going up hill it'll get stuck at 50. The higher octane stuff makes the bike sound better but i haven't really noticed much of an improvement in performance or mpg. I don't pay much attention to manuals but it does say only use regular unleaded and not the high octane stuff, no idea why, burns hotter? more stress on the engine?

Having dropped my bike the other day and found out how easy it is get parts of eBay i'm gonna mod it, they're fun bikes and i can't afford anything bigger till i finish uni so i'll just stick with it for a few years.

By the way, check out bikes of brighton for kit. Steve from clothing takes care of you - gives you a decent price and has only sold me good kit. I bought a leather Richa jacket that kept me warm and dry through winter (with a jumper underneath) and 2 quality helmets - a shark s500 air which was budget but kept me dry and saved my noggin when i head butted the concrete in a spill and my new one - a shark vision r in black with red detail on the front vent. The new helmet was £220 (i was looking for something more upmarket this time) but is way better than the more expensive (£270) Shoei quest, it has at least 4 features that Shoei haven't bothered with. I even got a recomendations on tattoo artists that are worth a shout in Sussex haha. When i did buy some gloves that weren't up to scratch i got em swapped straight away and i don't know how much your mates have been able to do on your bike but if you reckon your front forks are still out - it wasn't cheap - but i got mine straightened for £40 at bikes of brighton garage. That was labour cost for an hour.

Anyways, hopefully no more spills, costs too much! good luck mate
