Moderator drewpy Posted April 2, 2012 Moderator Posted April 2, 2012 Its finally arrived, I can't put it off any longer. I have finally made a start on the little Gilera here's what I found with the frame Oops its broken what's that smeggy thing on there? cut that thing off and read up on slugging the frame off the chopper underground I lost my lathe virginity today, and it was great. There is something cathartic about cutting bar on a lathe. It was a bit daunting at first, as it had a plethora of knobs and levers but I soon picked it up. Apparently all the kids just put a programme in and watch their steel take shape. I did it the old school way well my new slug fits great and just needs welding up with the engine in situ to make sure everything fits. those plates are next and I need some 5mm plate to remake the main stand rests.
Moderator DirtyDT Posted April 2, 2012 Moderator Posted April 2, 2012 "Gilera 4V project" There is no way that you will get a V4 in that frame Drewps.
Moderator Airhead Posted April 2, 2012 Moderator Posted April 2, 2012 That'll be a good strong fix drewpy, got a welder to hand?
Moderator drewpy Posted April 2, 2012 Author Moderator Posted April 2, 2012 aye, I welded my all of my tracker with an oil cooled arc welder I bought from machine and mart in '82
Moderator drewpy Posted April 2, 2012 Author Moderator Posted April 2, 2012 "Gilera 4V project" There is no way that you will get a V4 in that frame Drewps. that's why its called 4v V = vitesse = gears although if I was called Allen Millyard, it may have happened
Moderator drewpy Posted April 2, 2012 Author Moderator Posted April 2, 2012 Vitesse is speed in French its 4 "speed" = gears, so not far away
Moderator drewpy Posted August 1, 2012 Author Moderator Posted August 1, 2012 little update as I am collecting bits and have most of the engine stuff together. took a chance on ebay Italy and bought some new after market forks called "Forcella" any way they came today and they FIT! just need the alloy stuff vapour blasted and can make a start on the engine. at this rate I should be done by Easter next year!
beef Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 with the repair to the frame you need to V both of the edges of the tube so you can weld it all the way round. to allow good penetration and a proper join, and then grind back flush for a seamless almost invisible repair.

Moderator drewpy Posted August 11, 2012 Author Moderator Posted August 11, 2012 done a bit more today, seeing as the Trackers battery has yet again let me down I 2k cleared the tank and panels after a couple of decals have been applied I am after a tls drum brake for the front, the original is made of steel FFS
beef Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 tank looks great. and i have the same issue with my flat tracker killing batteries... but i got a kick start to save me...
Moderator drewpy Posted August 12, 2012 Author Moderator Posted August 12, 2012 I got kick only, the battery was down to 10v, no good for TCI. just ordered a Ballistic battery from the states as it will be small enough to fit in the tail section with a bit of modding
Moderator drewpy Posted August 14, 2012 Author Moderator Posted August 14, 2012 got a seat today and trialled it on the bike for proportions bit of a gap at the front, need to ponder that a bit
