Hi All

I'm Neil and although I signed up a couple of weeks ago, this is the first chance I've had to sit and write an intro of sorts.

After my car insurance was due last month I decided that it wasn't worth paying £500 or so to just drive a couple of miles to the station and back so I started looking for a cheap bike to buy. After being outbid on Ebay for a lovely Fs1e I wondered about doing my CBT.

A chance visit to the ATC squadron where my son's a cadet I had a look at the staff sergeant's YB100 sitting in the garage. He kept it there so his mrs. didn't know he had it but it hadn't moved for about 6 months due to no MOT. A quick chat and a new ruling from the ATC HQ about vehicles on premises and I ended up agreeing to buy it with a fresh MOT for £300.

A week later I did my CBT and picked it up that evening. The first week was fun with a pretty dead battery so no indicators and the 10 mile run I gave it didn't help enough. It only did a top speed of about 47 as well. Remedial action was a new battery and "service" (decoke and clean-up) at my local bike place. They also replaced the points which were shot to pieces - oh, there wasn't an air filter in it either!

I've now sourced an air-filter and spare set of points via ebay and it goes a comfy 50-55 now. The top-box slows it down a bit though. The only problem left now is that the main bearing has a bit too much play but it does me ok.

It's a great fun bike and a darn sight better than the old 3-speed Puch MS50D I had about 10 years ago.

I won't often post on here as I tend to be a lurker but when I do post it tends to be epic!

Cheers

Very true. Much as I like to believe I've retained my youthful slimness and vitality, in truth I have gained the usual middle-aged spread. If you're talking about the 2-stroke, I filled that last weekend!

I've a horrible feeling I might be selling it soon though as there is the chance of a nice CG125 nearby and the extra power will be welcome.

Well, no sooner than I join then a young lady in her Mum's micra pulls out in front of me :madflame: killing my bike and sending me road-surfing. Due to the road being very wet and slippy all I did was slide down the hill on my belly (bruising a rib or two). The YB was not so lucky...

At least I have a nice 11 plate YBR125 as a courtesy bike B) and she admits full responsibility :hyper:
