Well, first off - HI ! Right. Now that that's done, a bit about me:

I'm a 19 year old student from Estonia (this forum had no flag for it so I took England for I got relatives in Cambridge

whom I try to visit every so often - so a bit of blood of the brits in me). I got a 1989 XJ 600 (pre-diversion, that is) that I got for free from my pa's lifelong lad who bought himself a new one and was all like "I've had it sitting for years anywho, so you can have it if you want it" ... silly man asking even more silly questions. As an almost sane youngling, why would I turn down a free bike? Its been laid down a couple of times so the right side had some scratches, a bent lever, no signal indicator, etc.

So I did some scouting on the web while I also joined a motorcycle course to get my license. Got the license at the start of this July. By that time I had got the bike a new battery, took off and cleaned the carbs, drained the oil and changed the air and oil filter.. also new plugs. So I had got my hands dirty a bit for the first time, although it was only maintenance work.

Since the fairing was scuffed and scratched and all, I decided I'm better off without it (inspired by customfighters.com). So I got her a classic single round headlight and 4 small led blinkers. That is basically where I'm at right now. Also bought some pod air filters and a Sigma bicycle speedo to swap out the gauges. Holding off on installing the pods, because I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle the rejetting yet (I'm pretty sure that would be necessary?). Also trying to find some top triple clamps and flat or drag bars to change out those idiotic pre-divy "clip-ons" or what-chu-ma-call it. On customfighters they told me the fz600 of the same year-ish (87-90 I guess) top triple swaps clean with the xj600 one. So I'll try to get my hands on one of those, because there's no possibility to drill holes for the risers/clamps onto the current triples.

Joined this community because while CF.com is a great site and lots'a great builders there, I feel that this is a more yamaha-specific community and I'm sure I'll have tons of questions popping up when I get more balls deep with my project. Also thinking of changing out the seat unit (not sure if I'd want to go for a cafe-ish/bobbed seat - would fab it myself then I guess; or a modern sportsbike tail - in that case I'd keep the 2-up). Definitely also looking into new pegs and some rearsets.

Any comments/critique is always welcome, I absorb any kind of advice well and I won't start cryin - so let me have it!

PS! Didn't know if pic-whoring is allowed. Will add pics later if I get the green light from you lads :)

Andrew
