jimmythemoonlight Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 heeelp, i have realized after a long search 2 days that i have lost my bike key, yes it was the only one , and yes went through the standard 6 hour hunt in the most irrelevant of places... any way my plea is for advice ,,, how do i et a replacement , where and how much is this likely to cost??? is there a postal service to be recommended...
Moderator Airhead Posted October 31, 2011 Moderator Posted October 31, 2011 oh bugger they dont put numbers on the locks any longer, its my first job when i buy a bike with one key to cut another...might mean a new lock / key...others may know better. check your toolboxes as you have been working on it recently if its any consolation i have lost my mobile phone...dohh!
up.yours Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 and i have lost my mojo, hope this comforts you.
Moderator mervin Posted November 1, 2011 Moderator Posted November 1, 2011 Have yuo tried in the fridge?? in the dogs basket ? all places i have known people find lost keys in the past
KirriePete Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I've lost my voice but I can still type. A proper locksmith (not a cobbler with a bench grinder) should be able to cut a key from the lock, sure there isn't a serial number stamped on it somewhere? Phone your local locksmith, costs nothing to ask does it?
Noise Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Check in the bike! i have done this many times! lol. if your lock smith cant cut you a key from the barrel them im afraid its a whole new barrle and key. start with ebay im sure you can get a decent priced one on there.
Ttaskmaster Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 A proper, professional Locksmith can impression the lock cylinder and cut a key from that, regardless of whether it has a number on or not. A set of three is usually £7-15. He may even be able to use the VIN/reg to find the cutting index, if he has the right kit. Make sure it's one who specialises in vehicles and go for a small local firm, NOT one of the big national companies with the nice full-page colour ads in the Yellow Pages.
