kayos Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Here we go then, one 1976 V50P going through a bit of a tidy up. stripped down. I resprayed the top of the handle bars. New sprockets. hand painted bits that are not seen, for added rust protection. New brake shoes. and the piston looks like it needs replacing. More soon - Kayos
Moderator Airhead Posted October 16, 2011 Moderator Posted October 16, 2011 Its in great shape for such an old bike, spent all its life under a roof when not out on the road, ohh and pedals too so if it wont start after the tidy up
Moderator DirtyDT Posted October 16, 2011 Moderator Posted October 16, 2011 Love the painted handlebar cover. The bike looks in great condition.
up.yours Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 i nearly got myself one of these little buggers, for £50 i don't have room for it though. nice little bike you got there kayos.
kayos Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I have removed any casting roughness from the exhaust port. New piston ready to go in - not surprising the bike has trouble moving me! New and old pistons together. Next job is to put the engine back together- which I will try soon.
Moderator DirtyDT Posted October 18, 2011 Moderator Posted October 18, 2011 I like the shiny one. It always surprises me just how small bike pistons are.
NEV Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I have removed any casting roughness from the exhaust port. New piston ready to go in - not surprising the bike has trouble moving me! New and old pistons together. Next job is to put the engine back together- which I will try soon. Now then, I was reading something recently about putting the top end back on, aparently if you put a circlip into the piston, put the piston with the rings lined up inside the barrel, then drop the barrel down onto the con rod and small end bearing, then push the gudgen pin through, then the other circlip, it's meant to be easier than dropping the barrel onto the piston, whilst trying to keep both rings lined up on the locating pins blindly,
Moderator Airhead Posted October 18, 2011 Moderator Posted October 18, 2011 yes indeed NEV and place the pin in the freezer...and the barrel with piston in the oven beforehand
NEV Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 yes indeed NEV and place the pin in the freezer...and the barrel with piston in the oven beforehand Aye, and that
kayos Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Thanks for the tips - I will try the piston trick as its hard enough to get the piston in on the bench, the old circlip stabbed me hence the plaster on the thumb.
up.yours Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 your hand looks just like mine kayos, aint that spooky.
weimieman Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Nice to see the compulsory restoration "plaster" on the finger there! Keep up the good work
kayos Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 Whats happened today? Put the new piston in and engine back together - bit of a fiddle but not to bad, and I remembered the gaskets! Nice shiny new exhaust, not that simple though, the thread is a tad bigger than the old one so will not fit - arse. After a bit of thinking decided to cut both threaded bits off. And weld the old one onto the new pipe. That should do for the moment. Kayos
kayos Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Couple of things painted prior to starting work on the frame. Pedal chain guard Number plate holder.
kayos Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Rear mudguard painted- closest match was blur hammerite (smooth spray).
kayos Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 i HAVE CHANGED THE POINTS AND SET THE TIMING And painted everything except the front forks. AND............. iT WON'T GO NOW - arse- see workshop HELP.
