Campaman, it looks like leathy is right and the earlier classic models came with pegs as standard. Look forward to seeing your bike in the gallery!

I have now managed to get a couple of pics into the gallery... Title: My 1998 XVS650 Dragstar Classic

Cheers Leathy! I'm going to get the bike ACF50'd as soon as poss. The bike came with the saddlebag supports but no saddlebags when I bought it. Got these (in fake leather) from Custom Cruisers. I've found they're very practical.

...apart from two fairly rusty rear shocks, grotty rims, oh and some cunt pushing the bike over where I'd parked it and denting the lovely new Fuel end can :madflame:

But then she is my work horse; still a shitload of fun though! :biggrinbounce:

Update: replaced the oem screen with a rather slimmer and better looking one (the ranger from national cycle). Oh, and a new saddle.

Very nice. Looks like a model I may be aiming at now! I am just getting into bikes and it looks like rebuilding could be a hobby I might stick with. I often jump between 'fancies' as the groovy factor wears off and I learn everything I can. Unlike cars, I can fit multiple projects in my garage which might be a BAD thing! ?

It's been a while (4 years!) since I posted those last pics. A lot has happened since then:

... involving a hit-and-run, and a largish insurance payout to me, some of which went on, well, you can see for yourselves.
