Hi guys and gals

Im having a issue with one of our bikes and i need your help. Basically im having a huge issue getting our 52 plate Aerox YQ100 to start I will list the following which has beeen done and if anyone can help i would be hugely grateful....

Air filter replaced.

Brake light switch is operating as is the cables.

Breather pipes are clean.

Carb has been dismantled cleaned and reassembeled.

Engine has compression and piston is moving freely.

Fuel tank has been drained and replaced with new fuel.

Reed valve block has been replaced. (old metals petals were warped)

Spark plug has been replaced and is producing a spark.

Starter relay clicks.

Starter switch seems to operate fine.

All the above has been done but the thing will still not start!

Could it be a CDI unit as ive heard they are common to fail on Yamahas?????

I doubt it if you have a spark.

Listing what you have done is one thing but describing what happens when you try to start it would help us to help you.

What colour is the spark?

Does the spark get damp (with fuel)

Does the engine turn over when you try to start it

Will it push start

Have you tried easystart

Are you happy the carb has been put back together and fitted correctly

Same as above with the reed valve.

Hi mate well the engine is attempting to start you can hear the compression so to speak

What colour is the spark? -- BLUE

Does the spark get damp with fuel? -- DOESNT SEEM TO BE THAT DAMP BUT YOU CAN SMELL THE FUEL VAPOURS ON THE PLUG IF THAT HELPS

Does the engine turn over when you try to start it -- YES STARTER MOTOR IS TRYING TO CATCH AND PISTON IS MOVING FREELY

Will it push start -- DO YOU MEAN BUMP START? IF SO I HAVENT TRIED..

Have you tried easystart -- YES

Are you happy the carb has been put back together and fitted correctly -- YES THE JETS IN THE FILTER BOWL SEEMED OK

Same as above with the reed valve. -- YES

  • 3 weeks later...

Ive fixed the YQ100 Aerox common non starting issue!!!

It turned out that the engine had compression but not enough to start the engine basically the upper piston ring had twisted and scored the barrel. This was due to a heat problem which is really common on the Aerox bikes, The 100cc are air cooled which is really daft...

For anyone else who is stuck I basically ordered from ebay and replaced the following...

New Barrel

New Piston & Pin

New Piston Rings

New Reed Valve

New Spark Plug

Now she runs like a dream and got it back on the road for less than £120 hopefully get a few more years out of the old girl!!
