Posted March 21, 201114 yr Hi all just joined because i need a little bit of help identifying a old Yamaha I have just brought. I know very little about it other than it has disc brakes front and back the rear shock sits under the tank it appears to be a twin cylinder because of 2 coils mounted to the frame, also the rear swing arm is aluminium and the front of the frame is not. Here are a few pictures Any help would be great thanks Tom. Edited March 21, 201114 yr by drewpy
March 21, 201114 yr Moderator Is there a frame number on the headstock? Looks like comstar wheels on it.
March 21, 201114 yr Author I really couldn't tell you at the moment I will get all the details I can when I pick the bike up one night in the week. I'm not sure what comstar wheels are but they appear to be able to come apart into 2 pieces like split rims lots of bolts holding the 2 sides together. The rev counter its not electronic uses a some kind of cable almost like a speedometer cable, the shock is red and almost car coil over size also the bars are tucked right in almost near the tank the brake lever had ap or something like that written on them.
March 21, 201114 yr Moderator It looks like a cafe racer project. These normally have clip ons. Older bikes tended to have cable speedos but I don't have a clue what it is. Maybe an old RD but I would guess that someone here may have a better idea.
March 21, 201114 yr Author I will get more pictures in the week how much are these worth ? i payed a 100 pounds for it.

March 21, 201114 yr where did you buy it from tom,did no information come with it?and what are your plans a full renovation project or just to get it running either way i hope you have deep pockets,it looks like tzr but not sure looking at the swingarm, have you the engine? or a box of bits
March 21, 201114 yr Author well my friends brother brought a house and the previous occupier left a barn full of old bikes and tools so when he said he only wanted a 100 pounds for it i brought it straight away, No none at all although my friends brother has contacted the bloke who left it and he said he would post any documents he had for the bike to him, Depending on how hard it is to find bits I would like to fully rebuild it over a period of time. The swing arm is the bit catching my out as well could it be a race bike apparently the bloke who left the bike is a previous world champion ?,yeah I have the engine in bits in a box with the rest of the bike should be fun finding which bit goes were.
March 21, 201114 yr Moderator Are you sure the swing arm is aluminium Tom? Looks a bit skinny more like a steel one, have you tested it with a magnet?
March 21, 201114 yr Author Im not a 100% sure,Ive not tried a magnet on it yet I will do when i fetch the bike. Would you say a 100 pounds is a good price for it ?
March 21, 201114 yr Moderator Definitely, the wheels have to be worth that, not to mention the tank.It will however cost loads more to get anything like.
