Twisted2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 Good point and well said... ...i'll end up going into the test centre ready to go off at the tester! check these out http://www.ukmot.com/next.asp?ID=45 under lights http://www.johnparkermotorcycles.co.uk/wew...bpages/wmot.htm
Twisted2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Author Posted November 13, 2004 had another look through the haynes and it turns out the bike is actually 12v!!   This is the indicator relay right? not gettin anything from it! Do the indicators run off the battery?? or do they work the same way as the headlights? I dont have my battery connected! http://www.apry48.dsl.pipex.com/Bike/relay1.jpg http://www.apry48.dsl.pipex.com/Bike/relay2.jpg
johnalpi Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 that looks like a indicator relay. it sould, when the indicators are tuned on, make a clicking sound. yours looks like someone has had a go at fixing it. they can be opened up and fixed.... ive got a load of old parts in my shed, i will have a look and see if i have a spare you can have.
Twisted2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Author Posted November 13, 2004 that would be excellent....cheers mate
Twisted2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 I got hold of a 12v relay, which has the correct rattings for my bike. Tried it out the other day and......... .....nothing! I'm going to open up the switch and check that all the components are working in there. Does the bike battery need to be connected for the relay to work?
skyline Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 hmm yes the battery does need to be connected for the relay to work. yea give the swictch a clean and make sure you got the relay connected properly and that it goes to all the indicators and battery etc
Twisted2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Author Posted November 22, 2004 Ok, so my next step is gonna be connecting the battery. I think there are some cables missing, but i'm not sure, i have the wiring diagram in the haynes so i should be able to get through it.
Alan Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Regarding indicators for MOT. All it says on the failure sheet, under lighting equipment is DIRECTION INDICATORS & HAZARD LAMPS it's either pass or fail :!: Anything post 85 /86 has got to have working indicators. If they have been removed then they have got to be replaced for the MOT (I've just rung my local tester) Apparently it's to do with type approval and construction and use regs. If you build a special out of parts prior to 85/86 you don't have to fit indicators after that you do.
Twisted2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Author Posted November 25, 2004 Nice one alan, i dont think i'd attempt the MOT without indicators anyways
Moderator YamaHead Posted November 25, 2004 Moderator Posted November 25, 2004 Very Similar to over here.....Should have indicators on for any testing to be done,....but don't necessarily have to keep them on after that......it is illegal to ride @ night without 'em though. All the Old School Harley boys do it all the time. 8)
johnalpi Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Hi Twisted2004, I've been busy for a bit, but today I "liberated" a relay from my old FT500 (it's a Honda, shhhh). It's a 12V but only has two connections. It's yours if you want it, just PM me with your address and I'll sent it over, work can pay the postage! lol
Twisted2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Author Posted December 4, 2004 thanks mate, but i managed to get hold of another one. ..the thing is the old one may still work, i just need to connect up my battery first! thanks again.
Twisted2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 got the battery plugged in and the original relay actually worked! thanks again for everyones help,
