I Just got a 78 xs750 and it did not come with an air box. I was concerned and wondenring if anyone know if this bike will start and run without the air box connected. I can seem to get it to, I dont know if it is the actual carbs or the box I just wanted to be sure before I just dove in. If anyone has had the bike running with the box off or if it does not run please inform me so I can start this project.

Thanks Bryan

it ought to make some attempt to start and run, most engines with a bit of fuel and a spark will fire briefly, it is possible the carbs are blocked

spray some "easy start" in there, if it revs there's ya problem.

it can't be pulling fuel in then if start fluid works!!

the air box wont make a difference in starting up, just running at higher revs

I was kinda thinking the same thing, I am going to hook up a another battery so that I can turn it over a little better I think that is part of my problem also... Thank you for your help

At idle the air filter can more then supply the needs for the carbs, therefore there should be little difference with the airfilter on or off.

If you are going to run it without a Airbox you will have to re-jet to correct the mixture, It will start and run with out though only very lean.
