ktmhiflyer Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 I Just got a 78 xs750 and it did not come with an air box. I was concerned and wondenring if anyone know if this bike will start and run without the air box connected. I can seem to get it to, I dont know if it is the actual carbs or the box I just wanted to be sure before I just dove in. If anyone has had the bike running with the box off or if it does not run please inform me so I can start this project. Thanks Bryan
Moderator mervin Posted December 18, 2009 Moderator Posted December 18, 2009 it ought to make some attempt to start and run, most engines with a bit of fuel and a spark will fire briefly, it is possible the carbs are blocked merv
Moderator drewpy Posted December 18, 2009 Moderator Posted December 18, 2009 spray some "easy start" in there, if it revs there's ya problem.
ktmhiflyer Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 I can get it to fire on starting fluid, i was just seeing if anyone had exp with the air box being off or not... Thanks for your help
Moderator drewpy Posted December 20, 2009 Moderator Posted December 20, 2009 it can't be pulling fuel in then if start fluid works!! the air box wont make a difference in starting up, just running at higher revs
ktmhiflyer Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 I was kinda thinking the same thing, I am going to hook up a another battery so that I can turn it over a little better I think that is part of my problem also... Thank you for your help
Speedshop Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 At idle the air filter can more then supply the needs for the carbs, therefore there should be little difference with the airfilter on or off.
FJ12SP Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 If you are going to run it without a Airbox you will have to re-jet to correct the mixture, It will start and run with out though only very lean. Adam.
