Dan, This little pipe you talk about, is it the actual exhaust then the fatter pipe over the top of it?

If so I'd advise you not to take that out as you will loss back pressure and you may find that you will either go slower or the bike will fail to start.

yes its inside the fatter pipe you cant see it unless you cut the pipe open (cut off the flange that bolts to the head)

thanks for the advice

however the standard pipe is now in my loft an it now uses straight through 2 an half inch pipes from a 1340 harley ( got them cheap off the bay)

is 55mph in 3rd to be expected i ve not really pushed it any further

I don't think I ever took my XVS125 passed about 40mph in 3rd... I bet yours is squealing "kiiiiillllllll meeeee" at 55mph in 3rd

55MPH is close to detonation, remember she is a cruiser lol.

I would say you would have lost some grunt fitting the Harley pipes, (but id like to be corrected)

Change gears lower down, listen to the engine and try not to pin her at top revs before gear changes.
