  1. I sure hope that everyone can voice their opinions about the topic at hand. My setup is as follows: Gearbox standard, front sprocket =15t and rear sprocket=47t. New carb with standard jetting and K&N air filter. Boyesens reeds. New OEM piston & rings. BR8EIX spark plug. Standard exhaust & tailpipe. The bike starts fine and rides with a lot of torque in lower gears. But when riding up to 5th gear, the revs pick up nicely and goes 8000+, yet when changing to 6th gear, the revs drop to 4500 with WOT and speed drops progressively as well. When in top gear going at WOT there seems to be a willingness to go faster but it feels like brakes is applied, going at 3/4 throttle a feeling of just cruising is at hand but there is no desire from the engine to go faster. Do I open the bottom end for a bearing replacement exercise or would you recommend that I change the front sprocket to 14t or the back to 49t? Any suggestions welcome and if possible I will try to test them in the coming weeks and keep the post updated.
  2. Hi There, I own a 58 reg Yamaha YBR125 - Custom, I baught it from a dealership 2 weeks ago. It is still under its 3 months Take back for repair warrantly but i am to far away to get it to the dealership and get it done. Im currently having a problem with the gearbox where i set off in first as i go up into second giving it a fair push as you have to it will click onto the neutral light and then off as if it was in second, About a second later it will slip itself back down into neutral and i end up giving the engine a fair reving off of it. Also the drop from 2nd to 1st gives out a rather large clunk sometimes, more than it usualy does. I was thinking that perhaps there is a problem with the 2nd gear cog or the gear selector? Any ideas and anyone else who has had that problem to explain it wuld be great help! Thanks Joe.
  3. Hey guys. I've recently hit a tree stump on my 1986 XT 400 and broken the gear shifter shaft (luckily I have another XT 400 for spares). The shaft has broken flush with the motor, so no way to reattach (weld etc). I have searched and searched for a way to change this, does anyone know how to change the shaft? The only way I can see is to drop the whole motor out and disassemble the top end to be able to even get to where I shifter shaft is, I've asked a few people and all they say is "You should be able to just slide it out" however it is not this simple. Any help at all would be appreciated, Cheers, Ricky.
