  1. i will take a guess at about 160mph ish not sure the 2001 zx6r can do 155mph so because of the newer tech i would guess at 160mph as i sead

I have a 2008 R6 and maxed it out at 164mph on a slight incline...had plenty of road left, but she didnt have much, if anything!

  2. Hello matey - i am no mechanic, but when i have chatted to my biking buddies about buying bikes, they have said it is not so much the wear and tear on the engine, it is the wheel bearings, linkages, suspension and other peripheral parts that wear out first. 22.5k sounds a lot - too high for me - but if it is fully serviced and in good nick, then why not!

This post was probably worth nothing of value to anyone, but i enjoyed passing on the advice that got me to buy my new R6! tee hee.

  3. Welcome Mrs Minx!

I have no idea what an XT is, or an XXT, or an XTT...but as long as you are happy riding it then i am know how that feels!

Enjoy the forum - let me know if and when you get a sports bike.....!

  4. Welcome to the forum Martin. That is rubbish news about the diesel spills, but at least you have managed to cover 4600 safe miles too. See you around the site.

  5. How on earth can you make any sort of communication at speed and expect the on-coming biker to receive or respond?

I think a nod or any other communication whilst travelling around town sends a really positive message to motorists - but i accept your comment about when doing it at speed. I think is shows a real bond and understanding...after all, it is years of riding that makes us the better road user!...so why not let them know!?!?!

  6. we'll have to have a YOC wave, both arms in air like this \o/

.........and then unable to swerve because some silly motorist-tart decides to pull out in front of you! Grrrrrrr.

  7. In response to the interesting article at "Nodding Bikers", i thought it would be good to initiate a kind of user guide to 'nodding ettiquette'. I was familiar with the nod and actively promote it; however i was unaware of the open/close hand gesture alerting me to Police! So, if you know of any agreed gestures - let's have them detailed here?

  8. I think all bikers should nod / wave at all other bikers - it seperates us from the other ignorant road users! Let's face it, it is us bikers against every other type of vehicle!....we are lucky if we make it home without a scrape or three!

As for nodding at learners and scooters?...i think it is polite, as we were all there once eh? Maybe we should have a thread here for accepted signals as i never knew about the 'Alert Police' one!?!?!?

  9. You will be absolutely fine as most ol' Bill haven't got a clue about the legislation for helmets, dark visors, open faced helmets or exhausts anyway! tee hee.

As long as you have a helmet on, i dont believe you are breaking any laws. I have a Roof Boxer - see avatar - and i often ride with the chin guard up as it is lovely in the sun. I have never been pulled and as i said - they haven't got a clue!

  10. Welcome to the forum! That is a mini-my bike and it looks fab! Have seen them around recently and they are far nicer than the older 125cc's...a great purchase!

Hope to see you around the site and maybe at a meet of three - summer is coming! Stay safe and ride safer!

You need 'em to ride the R6!!

    Thank you for viewing.

  13. I had to share this with everyone - i managed to get out on my bike for the first time this year for a proper blhaat! At last, the weather is looking better and summer is creeping in slowly, but surely!

Did any one else manage to make the most of the sun today? I nearly sold my bike two weeks ago cos i was soooo fed up with the snow and winter chill - so today has been a God send...and my bike is off teh market! yippee!

    Happy riding all!

  14. Well, at least there is some interest. I am planning on being there by Christmas, but am always willing to come up beforehand for the weekend if there is anything going on? I am hoping to come up in the next couple of weeks if anyone fancies meeting up in Buxton / Matlock / Bakewell for a beer and a blast?

  15. Hello All.

I am planning a move to Derbyshire within the next couple of months and was wandering if there was any biking clubs or regular get together's organised by people on here? I know there is normally a bike meet at Matlock on a Saturday and Sunday, but is there anyone on here who fancies a ride around the Dales?

Hope to hear from you soon.

  16. hi , you dont have abs , and it doesnt have slipper clutch either, when you brake real hard the rear tyre wants to lift off floor slightly so it skips in the air.watch any moto gp bike race as they have this all the time,,no sure about the clicking nose, ?? poss head bearings are slightly loose ?

    Thanks for the reply.

This line is direct fr the Yamaha website - and it says it has a slipper clutch: "Back torque-limiting slipper clutch greatly facilitates braking and downshifting from high speed. Close-ratio six-speed transmission delivers seamless power and maximum acceleration."

Not sure about the head bearings as it is brand new - is that really likely? Suppose i had better give the dealership a call and check.

Thanks for the advice buddy - i will let you know what they say.

    Ta.

  17. I am a complete techno-phobe when it comes to bikes, i just enjoy riding them!

I had a strange experience on my R6 yesterday, whereby i started braking fairly hard and then there was a clicking noise from the front of the bike (ABS?) and the rear wheel locked and the bike started to go sideways. Managed to control it with ease, but felt a little strange.

Has the bike got ABS and is the locking rear wheel something to do with the slipper clutch - whatever that is - or was i just too exciteable with my right foot?
