  1. Rode on the M4 yesterday in extreme wind conditions 2 up. Kuuuriste was that scary, anybody with similar experiences ?

Also have had extreme rain on the M5 where I couldn't see ten feet in front of me, had to stop under a motorway bridge, always wondered if a cop stopped would he have done me?

I stopped under a motorway bridge during a snow storm it was safer than riding. But if a cop got snotty I could claim the engine cut out with the snow

  2. rossi in the GP today was trying out a different approach by kicking his leg out early to set the bike up for the bend.

    drewps

Oh, and I thought he either had cramp or was doing a bikers gesture.

  3. picked the tdm up yesterday, did 200 miles today. What a revelation, how quick are these things on A and B roads? Had the back end hanked out a few times. This thing makes my fzr1000 look like a barge and the zx6r i had (briefly) seem gutless (torque-wise) and just a little bit silly.

What a bike, i am amazed i got it for 800 and yet it seems flawless, ok top speed only 130mph, but it pulls like a train and handles so neutrally.

Does any one know of any TDM forums? the only forum i can find is carpe-tdm and its locked.

i havent smiled inside a helemt this much in yonks :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hi pilinggas, glad you like the TDM. Ive got the 900abs model and it's good fun for me, it shows a few 600's dust. Try again on Carpe forum, it shouldn't be locked. loads of advise and stuff from other tdm riders. ;)

    all the best

  4. hi everyone.

ive been toying with a little thought for a while now, its quite a crazy idea but i'd like to see how it goes nonetheless...

i'd like to go touring on my little Yammy DT50, which is a completely stupid idea but why not give it a try? its got a nice comfy seat, tough as nails and is cheap to run.

Better to go with a friend, but give yourself plenty of time and it will be good fun. I toured Cornwall from Manchester many years ago when I was 16, on a honda 50. An adventure I never regreted. Good luck.

  5. Ok i just bought an old 1979 yamaha dt 175 and i need a new rear rim and tire and was wondering do i have to buy a certain rim or will any 18" wheel fit as long as its off a yamaha?

    Hi Chadkoch

You may be able to get the wheel rebuilt with new rim and spokes, I guess it is a spoked wheel? Try various small motorbike shops, they may have a contact. best of luck

  6. I'm trying to remove the rear shock to replace it with a lowering shock. Common wisdom seems to be that you just unbolt it top & bottom & it comes out.

Done that. I just can't disengage the bottom end. It 'appears' there is a collar which runs between the bosses, which I'm guessing should slide through the bottom eye. I can't turn or move in any direction the exposed end of the collar. There isn't room on the chain side to punch it back through the bosses.

I'm stuck! Anybody got any ideas

hi pe89, it could be 'crud' that's making life difficult. Give the offending collar and boss a good spray of easing oil or paraffin. leave to soak overnight, wipe off and have another go. Also, could you draw out the collar with a bolt and spacer arrangement. You need to make sure the bolt head is reduced so it can pass through the boss as you tighten it up.

  7. Hi. I have been riding my yamaha dt 125 now for around 2 months. It is a 1991 model.

It has been leaking oil now for about a month, anyway, last night i was riding and suddenly i lost all power and had to pull over. I tried to kick start it but it was making a strange clunking noise and wouldnt start. I then went to bump start it but again it made a very strange noise and then died. I got it home after pushing it 2 miles and tried kick starting it again, the kick start stuck after about a third of the way down.

My dad put it down to running out of engine oil and the engine has 'seized'.

Whats everyones thoughts, how much would it cost to get it fixed at a mechanic? Or is it a simple job i can do myself.

I am not GREAT with bikes but i can follow instructions well.

Sorry about the long post i just want everyone to know the details.

Hi djw. So you ran your bike without checking the oil, it seized and you want some instruction. Try asking your dad for a wad of dosh and buy another bike.:blink:

  8. well after searching around, im close to doing my test and am going to get a big bike

i have been looking around for ages, but insurance is always a issue.

I have bought a limited edition bike

    Moto Guzzi 750 Twin

i would like to see what you think about it

I had a Moto Guzzi 750 Nevarda. Bought it new, did 12000 miles in 18 months, replaced bits that fell off and traded it in. The trade in was the best bit :)

  9. hi all

i have a DT 125 and the clutch now doesnt work the lever moves on the lh side but nothing hapens to the clutch plates wheres the adjuster nut help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or is there an adjuster wots wrong???? can any one help

Sounds like your clutch is worn. New friction plates will be the answer. In other words, strip down the clutch and renew the plates. Not a big job but you need to know what you're doing. ;)

  10. not necesarily, by pass the solinoid by getting jump leads and connecting to earth and the fat black lead from you starter motor. if it spins then its not the starter. and i would suspect the solenoid, do you hear buzzing after the "click" or is it quiet? buzzing indicates starter worn, nothing, i would suspect the solenoid

Also, the solenoid can click but if the battery connection or earth connection is in poor condition there wont be enough current flow to turn the starter, so check all connections are clean and sound first - cheapest job first! Good luck

  11. Can nobody give me an answer to my question?..........maybe i'm on the wrong forum for technical info.

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

If you alter the position of the bars you'll need to make sure they dont catch on the fairing. I changed the bars on my 600 Fazer, there is a wide choice from many bike shops and I picked one to suit my needs.

    Enjoy your Fazer ;)

  12. There are three ways to get more power from your 125.

Turbo supercharging, NO2, high performance petrol.

All are expensive so forget it.

A cheap option. buy tow rope ,attach to 125, connect other end to willing R6, hang on. :P

  13. Hello,

My Missus is interested in getting a 600 soon. She hates the fazer 600 (not the reason why i got one) but she is only 5ft2 (and half) tall. any suggestions?????

Could she wear high heels?:blink:

  14. Last week was my birthday

and I didn't feel very well

    waking up on that morning.

    I went downstairs for breakfast

hoping my wife would be pleasant

    and say, "Happy Birthday!", and

possibly have a small present for me

    As it turned out,

    she barely said good morning,

    let alone "Happy Birthday."

    I thought...

    Well, that's marriage for you,

    but the kids....

    They will remember.

My kids came bounding down stairs to

breakfast and didn't say a word.

So when I left for the office,

I felt pretty low and somewhat despondent.

As I walked into my office,

    my secretary Jane said,

    "Good Morning Boss,

and by the way Happy Birthday! "

It felt a little better that at least someone had remembered.

    I worked until one o'clock,

when Jane knocked on my door

    and said, "You know,

It's such a beautiful day outside,

    and it is your Birthday,

what do you say we go out to lunch,

    just you and me."

    I said, "Thanks, Jane,

    that's the greatest thing

    I've heard all day.

    Let's go!"

    We went to lunch.

    But we didn't go

    where we normally would go.

She chose instead a quiet bistro

    with a private table.

    We had two martinis each

and I enjoyed the meal tremendously.

On the way back to the office,

    Jane said, "You know,

    It's such a beautiful day...

We don't need to go straight back to the office, Do We ?"

    I responded,

"I guess not. What do you have in mind?"

She said, "Let's drop by my apartment,

    it's just around the corner."

    After arriving at her apartment,

Jane turned to me and said,

" Boss, if you don't mind,

I'm going to step into the bedroom

    for just a moment.

    I'll be right back."

    "Ok," I nervously replied.

She went into the bedroom and,

    after a couple of minutes,

she came out carrying a huge birthday cake .

Followed by my wife, my kids,

and dozens of my friends and co-workers, all singing "Happy

    Birthday.

    And I just sat there...

    On the couch...

    Naked.

Did he shag her or what?

  15. Hey there,

New myself and would love some people to say hi. New to biking too, but love my Yamaha SR125 1995...sweet bike.

    M

Hi Wolfeyes, welcome to the forum. Hope you can get some good riding in Scotland, between the rain. One day, maybe one day soon, I'll ride north and look at wonderful scottish countryside. :)

  16. But unlucky for me im 18 so its more like £1600! Any of you ride round London?

One of the few advantages of being older is cheaper insurance - £160 fully comp on 2007 tdm900 - but I'm an old git living in Somerset:P

  17. The tank I have was being used to clean surgical equipment. I was lucky enough to score it from a bowling friend. I am now trying to get him to get me one of the surgical camera's they used to snake into your body. Will be great to snake into an engine to inspect the internals.

    Sean

Dont forget to switch the engine off, first. :D:D
