  1. You know what I counted the gears on my way home from work yesterday and I've got six... for god knows how long now I thought I had five... Muppet... Although when I get up to 6th it seems to slow down rather than speed up can bring from 60 down to 50...

 I have done exactly the same, maths was never my strong point. About going into 6th gear mate if i am going up a slight incline then (like very slight) the bike will go down to 50mph, mind you it would probably do this in 5th gear as well.

I am when it stops pishing it down here going to pin the PV open and see if the top end is any faster.

  2. That sounds like it has some form of restrictor on it.

Yeah it does 63mph tops and there is a guy on the DT forums that has a 98 and he says his does exactly 63mph as well so it must be a re-stricitor. Trouble is the only thing I can think of is the CDI unit and the older ones are near impossible to find these days.

  3. I have a 2001 DTR and it does the same as yours mate, it gets up to 50 fine then struggles to reach 60 if I am going up hill it will only do 50. I don't think its the engine because it has only done around 4000 miles plus ive changed the air filter, removed the speedo re-strictor, changed the transmission oil and bought an after market exhaust and its still the same.

    Did you solve the problem?

  4. Ive had my bike for about 3 years now and ridden it on the road for nearly 1 year and I was wondering if it should only have 5 gears? Everywhere I read about DT's people say they have a 6 speed gear box and all the 01 spec sheets I find online say it should have 6.

I am the 3rd owner of the bike and when I bought it had only done about 1500 miles does anyone know if or why it would have a 5 speed box?

  5. I haven't broke any of the levers yet on my DT just bent the front brake a bit :). You should try Ebay and see if you can get some cheap there, http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll...=C3&from=R2.

I've thought the same about my local Yam dealer that they were just a bunch of rip off merchants but so far parts and oil have been cheaper from there than the internet. As for 2nd hand bikes and servicing i wouldn't go near them, i phoned them last week to ask how much a basic service was going to cost and they quoted me from 160 to 200 pounds lol.
