  1. The only way I got my car licence (with all the other entitlements, minibus ,7.5tonne etc) back was to provide the test pass certificate numbers & dates of tests. Because I couldn't find the copy of the m/c test cert (so couldn't supply the number) the DVLA refused to give back that licence. Despite letters from previous employers stating previous employment & providing photo copies of my licence, one of which was a government agency providing couriers for blood runs & organ transfers.

The only time I've ever had to supply copies of my licence for insurance is when changing employers, so they can give me permission to drive their vehicles.

  2. I had the same problem a couple of years ago, the DVLA reckoned that I had never held a licence despite the fact that I was working driving 7.5 tonne trucks at the time. Luckily I had kept photo copies of the pass cert's, well all but one! Yep , I couldn't find the bike pass cert so I had to resit the 'NEW' tests. To add insult to injury, I got accused of being a serial test taker because I got such a high score in the theory test until I explained that I drove lorries.

  3. hello

After hearing the good news that the new test has been delayed, and the fact i am annoyed at my mates keep pulling away from me as i only have a 125, i decided it is time to get off my arse and take my full test. Called the place that arranged my CBT and was quoted the below for direct access....is this too expensive?

    option 1 - £590

    x1 day 125 - 500 training

    x2 days 500cc training

    test on the 4th Day

    Option 2 - £490

Same as above without the transition day from a 125cc to a 500cc.

Price includes all training, teory test, practical test and they book everything for me (quite hassle free). Seems expensive though?? plus £130 i think it was for a re-test if (or should that be when :D) i fail

    What do you reckon?

Jump at option 1 mate, I paid that (£590) 3 years ago when I had to resit my test (coz the DVLA lost my m/c licence). On swapping to a photo licence they reckoned I never held one, not even for 7.5tonne vehicles that i was driving for a living at the time (no prizes 4 guessing which pass cert copy I couldn't find).

  4. It's the drive spigot (thing with two raised bits) attached in the wheel. When it gets bent (or worse) it starts jamming in the speedo drive mechanism (the thing the cable attaches to on the wheel). replace it & it should sort the problem (had to replace mine every couple of years).

  5. don't be put off, get the cctv bit & if you recognise them, Kin ave 'em! If it was parked in a private car park there's a good posability that you may know the people from the same building.

  6. check the carrier the caliper sits on, part of it can break off when heavy breaking doing off-road work. I had this happen to 4 different dt's when i worked for a motorcycle youth project. If it is the carrier then it's gonna be expensive coz yamaha sell's the carrier & caliper as a complete unit (so make friends with your local breakers, lol).
