  1. Having just found out the battery is a sealed item then you may have to tilt it somehow to remove it. Possibly towards the front of the bike. Also make sure the battery connections are pushed out of the way as they can take up space when trying to twist or turn the battery out of the frame.
  2. the best way of finding out is to put them on the bike & see if they work. As long as they get the bike through it's MOT it should be ok. Welcome to the world of basic custom jobs.
  3. I did mean a service manual not the owners manual. In the owners manual it tells you to take it to a yamaha dealer to change the oil.
  4. I've got the same bike & if it's got K&N's then check the main jets have been replaced with larger jets. If not the problem could just be caused by the engine over heating. Alternatively check the oil cooler's working properly. sometimes the valve behind the oil filter gets broken when over zealous replacement of the filter means the bolt is tightened too much.
  5. I would suggest it can only come out 1 of 2 ways. If out the side look for a panel to unscrew under one of the side panels, if out through the top you may have to lift the tank.
  6. If you have a manual for any bike you can read up on doing this job as they're changed much the same way on most bikes, if in doubt buy/borrow or down load a manual for specifics on that bike.
  7. Check the battery condition (charge & check the plates ain't warped) then the connector at the regulator/rectifier. Sometimes when you rest a bike for a few months you get a build up of verdigree (green powdery crap) in the electrical connections, this can cause the drop in voltage.
  8. Hi Needles. I had the same problem with my xj550 & found out that any engine of the same configuration will fit the frame. I put a 1983 xj600 engine in my frame & after a little messing around with the igniter units managed to get a top speed of 125mph (fork seals were knackered so this speed was where me undies started to change colour). I have a 1986 fz600 at the moment & it has the same configuration engine & i know that if you look around you'll find a few still in some breakers.By the way don't get fooled into buying a later engine (1990's or later) as these engines have a tilted head & barrels & won't fit. grizzlydan.
  9. Hi there, having owned both bikes in the past i can say that as long as the engine configuration (the tilt of the head & barrels) is the same you only have to change over the ignition pick-up coils along with the back plates to overcome this problem.
