  1. So to confound this nightmare of a week, in nursing the bike around to the garage at 10mph, the chain and front sprocket ripped itself to pieces cracking the crank case and have been given an £800 rebuild bill.

To top this off, Carole Nash have said that FULLY COMP insurance does not cover me. What the hell am I paying for then?

  2. No idea why it suddenly loosened off. I was thinking if the alignment could be out.

The chain and sprocket were ordered in and fitted by the Yamaha dealership and have been fine up to now.

Will extra weight on the bike cause overstretching of the chain? ie pillion or baggage etc

  3. Hi

I've had a new sprocket and chain set on for about 5 months and have kept an eye on the tension from time to time.

A couple of weeks ago on the way to work it suddenly slackened right off - about 3 inches of play. I stopped in a garage on the way and they tightened it up but said there was a serious tight spot but this should work itself out after a few miles.

2 weeks later and I've just had the chain jump off the rear sprocket twice this morning. Both times at low speed between 1st and 2nd. Could the mechanic have messed anything up when he tightened it or is there any obvious reason for this. I will have to get it to the Yamaha garage in town as I have no tools or jack in my current location?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers

  4. I came off a Vespa when I was 18 wearing a bomber jacket.

The slide fused the jacket to my elbow and they had to cut it off at the hospital. The melted nylon had left a small clear window looking into the hole in my elbow.

    Lesson learnt.

  5. I decided to stretch my arms out whilst stationary at the front of traffic this morning as I'd been in the position for quite a while and it was a bit chilly so wanted to get the blood going.

Cyclist slaps me on the shoulder shouting that I could've seriously injured him with a 'closeline' as I didn't look over my shoulder. Then he rode off swearing!

I was stationary at a red light toucan?!?!

I've never counted to 10 so quickly.

  6. Afternoon all

Just in case anyone ever needs to know, it appears a Dragstar will go 204 miles (including reserve) before she splutters out. Which cheered me up. Especially as I was 50 yards from a petrol station.

    Cheers

  7. Yeah, seems to be the general jist I've seen on some forums today DirtyDT

Last one i had was just placed on the seat, could easily have blown away. Which it must have done of course!

  8. There are a lot of choices but if you want the full package - intercom, phone, satnav, music, voice command operation etc you can't beat the Sena SMH10.

I know its fairly expensive but so simple to install, easy to use in the thickest of winter gloves, and clarity is unmatched. And completely waterproof, I've had it in some full on freezing downpours without issue. Good battery life too.

  9. Ethical Parking Management. A PPC with very limited legal right to charge.

You never have to pay these unless instructed by a court, which is highly unlikely due to no proof of GPEOL, and they are not fines in the first place.

Having said this, I don't just go round sticking the bike anywhere like a dick either :spin2:

  10. Hi

Just as a general query, anyone on here had much hassle from parking tickets off private parking management companies? I've had one or two in the past but now they seem to appear all over the place and I've seen lots of people mistakenly paying them. Mine go straight in the bin of course as they aren't official PCN's!

Any ridiculous / petty stories out there?

    Cheers

    Dom

  11. Hi

Couldn't start a new topic in the Wanted section so will leave this here if that's okay?

Have noticed that the (standard) exhaust on the Dragstar is venting from the muffler weld and so am putting out some feelers for a new system. Have been scouring the usual sites but if anyone knows of anyone who has Highway Hawks for sale, or similar respected slash cut pipes / slip ons, then I would be interested in taking a look.

Any idea if these are any good?

Thanks. Yeah got them on now.

The previous guy had replace it with a non standard nut and bolt and now there's nothing to get hold of underneath. Took some swearing and mole grips but got them on now.

All done in the dark with a mobile phone for light on a side street parking space. Ohhhhhhh to have a garage!
