  1. Im sorry that you were missed out, and its good advice given, we will put a post up explaining the situation.
So long as the post can be read before payment is made... A link on the 'you need to pay' page would probably be the best solution.
  2. Got it back yesterday...

    :D

Not bad for £30, and a hell of a lot better than one of those DIY covers which cost £25 and end up looking like a sack of potatoes.

He does mail order (the address is Bradley Mills road) but it's worth a trip there just to see the gorgeous Triumph flat tracker he has in there.

  3. Any existing member will not be charged just for new members.

So why did I just have to pay £2.00 then?

I don't object, after all it's a pittance for a lifetime membership, but having read this previously I was surprised that I now had to pay.

An email explaining the situation would have been nice..

  4. Huddersfield, eh? Might take mine along there.

And so I did. Took a run over there today and dropped the seat off. It should be ready for collection on Saturday. I'll post pictures of the finished seat.

    Cost, £30 for a standard re-cover.

  5. How are you charging the battery? If it's with a separate charger, try disconnecting the battery from the bike before charging it. Then leave it off for a day and see if it still has the charge. If it does, then there's something on the bike draining it.

    Is there an alarm fitted?

  6. No, the tappet won't come up any further once the valve is fully closed. And if there is already a gap, it will just get bigger.

However, having just had a proper look at your photo, do you realise you haven't rotated the camshaft far enough? The lobe ought to be pointing away from the tappet. Yours is only 90 degrees. I suspect you've only turned the crankshaft 180° when you should have turned the camshaft 180°.

As you have the tool, I'd be tempted to try again, but make sure you turn the cam far enough. First turn the tappet so you can see the small slot. Then fit the tool with the valve fully open, turn the crankshaft one complete revolution, this will turn the camshaft 180°.

The shim will be stuck to the tappet, so you need to push a small screwdriver into the slot to dislodge it.

  7. I didn't use the tool for mine, I loosened the camshafts a little and lifted them.

A strong magnet is useful too. rotate the tappet until you can see the small slot, insert a small screwdriver and get it under the shim. It will be 'stuck' down, but they do lift up. Once lifted you can draw it out with the magnet.

    As for the gaps, intake is .004 - .006, exhaust is .006 - .008

  8. I found a site that calls for the mixture screw to be yamaha p/n 20730-001. can anyone tell me where to get these or if there is a cross reference for the parts.

I found this while looking for stuff. The main jets are 132.5 (German spec) but it has the screws you need.

  9. Are they identifiable in some way??
Yep, they have the size stamped on them. You can see it if you look real closely. You don't need to remove them to see the markings.

See this pic for an idea.

According to my manual, the left one should be 127.5 and the right 117.5 or for the German model 132.5 / 130

  10. I had them completely apart and the bottom of the bowls had a yellowish film that cleaned up easy.
That yellowish film may also be partly blocking the jets in there. I would buy some card cleaning fluid and make sure they're clear.

Do not be tempted to use wire or anything to poke through the jets, this can enlarge them.

If you remove the jets, keep the bits separate as believe it or not, the left and right use different ones.

  11. I just used a small inline paper filter.

    One of these?

I fitted this type which is mesh rather than paper (and it only cost me £1 from the local bike shop...)

The one cylinder thing, I think, was due to a blockage not in the pilot jet but in that hole in the bottom of the float bowl which comes up the side IYKWIM.

At the top in this picture, next to the big alloy circle thing.

(that was when I first got it, not just now)

I think that feeds the choke (via the brass tube visible above the right side one in that picture), so it would seriously affect cold starting. I got a syringe full of fuel and forced it through the hole. It was much better after that, but if I don't get a decent filter I'll have to do it all again soon... :banghead:

  12. I need a decent inline fuel filter. I stripped the carbs, and the float bowls were full of muck. When I had them apart before I had them ultrasonically cleaned. I guess the crap is coming from the tank.

I already have a filter in the line, but it obviously isn't doing its job.

Any suggestions for an effective one?
