I ended up just flushing the old fluid out with new clean fluid and the problem is gone. Thanks for your advice guys.

Hey all - I am still pretty new to riding, just sold my 1989 Suzuki GS500E and I'm looking for a new project. I spotted this 1986 Yamaha FZ600 on CL, and I'm wondering if this is a reasonable project. I'm pretty good with carbs and other things mechanical.
Curious what you guys think for $250...

Thanks!
Does it run? If so I'd say it's worth a go for $250. Parts are somewhat hard to come by, unless you go through Yamaha. But for that kind of money you can surely put some into it and have a pretty fun starter bike. I sure like mine. I've been going through it bit by bit and learning how it comes apart and goes back together for future reference. Just get a Clymer or some type of manual and start into it.

My 88 FZ600 has a sticky feel when the front brakes lever is pulled. I pull it in and it sticks, then I can pull harder and move it some more then sticks, etc. Any info on what I can look for is helpful.
Thanks, I suspected as much, but thought I'd throw it out there for confirmation. It'll be a good learning experience for me. Plus the weather this weekend is supposed to be rainy anyway. I'll post how it turns out.

Just a little intro on myself. I rode while in college, then got married and stopped. (big shock) Now, I've gotten back to it with a little 88 FZ 600. It runs really well, and has enough power for me as I am just getting back into it.
I'm interested in working on it so if anyone has any ideas of what types of modifications will work on this bike I'll look at them all, no matter how crazy. Especially exhaust, intake, front forks, swing arm ideas.
It's great getting back on the bike!

You could look at RDdecals.com. I looked, but did not see any for a 1990 FZR, but they do have quite a few. A little more looking and you might find what you're looking for.
