  1. Daft question time, it does have an air filter right? (an original type with the air box, not pod filter/s).

    As above, check basics first, fresh clean fuel, filter not blocked, new spark plug (keep the old one and post a picture or describe exactly the colour & condition). Also, (don't ride too much as you may have badly lean mixture) when riding & it starts to die, does putting the "choke" (cold start lever) on help or make it worse?

    Don't know if the list I saw had a 5C on it, possibly a D-II if they made one?

    Just had a quick spin round the block on mine & wow are those tyres shot! felt like steering a barge through soup! Now it's not so far off engine-wise I'd better get some rubber sorted, what tyres do you have? Been told contis are pretty good but I've always liked either Michelin, or Heidenau on smaller bikes!

    I think if yours was fuel injected that'd make it a D but will have a look, probably less of those then E-II I would guess.

    If you look at the frame number on the r/h side of the headstock & the engine number on a flat bit above the clutch cover, I should be able to tell you more accurate info on it. The 29R 750E-II like mine is basically a 900 pre-div frame with uprated 750 engine.

    I'm going to say that your frame number is something like 5G8020xxx and engine number 5G8 also?

Don't think bad of anyone, if they want to delete a reply that's their prerogative, just saying shame it's quiet here, 38,000 members and the loudest thing's the church mouse lol compared to another forum with 12,000 members where there must have been 500 threads this week... And the knowledge base is purely XJ there too, just think I'm going to be able to answer questions about a less than common bike a bit quicker/easier there than here

  5. Preload, wasn't planning on throwing the original bodywork on something like this was just thinking if I find it iffy at all I may swap. You're right I like the look too, it grabbed my attention on ebay & when it was only 5 miles away well... you know the rest lol

    Davie, your engine number is just 29R with no other numbers? & frame number is 29R0001xx as well? If so you may have same bike wow! What frame number you got? EII started at 29R000101 I've got 29R000169...

  6. Correct, 29R model is "basically" a 31A frame (though obviously stamped 29R) with modified 750 motor (bigger valves, lumpy cam, stroked 0.1mm to make 749cc, bigger carbs)

    If that's right about the bikini then I'll look into getting the later fairing for it maybe, was thinking of adding the bellypan anyhow as it looks nice IMO.

  7. the one that looks like a 650 turbo would be a D-II I think, model ID 38X, frame 5G8 sound similar? They're pretty rare I think too! Found a lot of info on the XJbikes.com forums, those yanks love their secas!

    yeah he was quite hard on it, I'd describe the bodywork as very very good for the year actually! It was soaking wet in the pics too so that probably put bidders off thinking maybe the paint was flat as a fart or something?

    I was a bit cheeky really, put my last bid in with about 3 seconds to go. Would have gone to 700 tbf as I'd managed a little reading on it before it ended, surprised that not many bid on it though really as there were about 200 watching!

  8. That's my bike, I won the auction! so yes, the same... :) it was advertised as an E but is an E-II as confirmed by the 29R codes all over it (frame shows it was the 69th one made)

    So, the question is, did you just search ebay & that came up or were you after it too? :P

    Not bad for the price though huh? it's in pretty good shape really, few scratches and the infill panels that should go at the front of the tank are cracked, and the carbs are not original but I've had her running today & the motor's in good shape so I'm going to *TRY* to find some original carbs (Hitachi HSC33, code 29R00) or put the 750 jets from my spare set into the ones fitted, put some new tyres & brake lines on, new filters oil etc & put in for MoT for summer

  9. ??? there was never a UK XJ750E-II, it was a one year only JDM bike.There's no emission controls or anything like that. Think you may have misunderstood the original post. I know there's tons of XJ750s in general but specifically the E-II model is rocking horse droppings :S

    Fortunately the research so far has thrown up that it's basically a 900 rolling chassis with a modified 750 motor (bigger valves, higher comp & lumpy cams, 72bhp) and the larger HSC33 carbs that I'm missing.

    I've had it running today with the carbs that were fitted after swapping the main & pilot air jets around (must have been rebuilt to Haynes manual as it's wrong), and apart from random revving due to air leaks (airbox rubbers don't quite fit the 32mm carbs) it's sounding good & not smoking so I'm going to tear into it.

    I'll try to get some pics up but I certainly shouldn't be needing much else than carbs or rubbers & jets for current ones, tyres, brake hoses, filters etc to get on the road since it's in great condition for it's age having covered about 21,000miles & been kept indoors :)

  10. As per the title really.

    I just recently won an ebay auction for one of these 29R models, don't think seller knew it was an E-II. But anyway I'm starting to recommission it & was hoping maybe someone on here has even heard of this model, or know something about it, how rare? how many made? etc, as not many people seem to.

    I'm also looking for some original carbs (Hitachi HSC33's code 29R00) to replace the incorrect carbs it came with (2 sets of HSC32's, one jetted to US spec XJ650's and the other jetted to UK spec XJ750's) or any other 29R parts anyone may have I may be interested too...

  11. So, anyone else got one or know about them? Nobody seems to have heard of them, so far only found one other owner (but in NZ) and another person here in the UK who bought what they thought was one only to find it was a 750 motor in a 31A 900 frame...

    Hoping somebody at least knows of them, how many were made, stuff like that.
