I didn't do my test in the end meaning I can't ride this due to new regs, so I think I'll be selling it to buy a car. It's been hidden away at the farm since we took it down, been ridden occasionally but I think there's something up with the oil pump as it kept getting really hot until we put some 2T oil in the petrol tank to make a crude pre-mix.
I've just ordered a new loom and will fit it in the holidays I think, apart from that I just need some fork seals then it should be MOT-able.
Should be fun!

Haha, I didn't take may either. Next time I take it to bits I might try one as I've got a timelapse app on my phone
-
Looks good so far. You should try a timelapse!

nice sj, got any more pics???
Some. It was pretty scary tbh, especially down the A47. We didn't exceed 35, lol. Went green laning after so it's all good!
Bike was stuck about 1 foot out either side of the jeep, no mirrors.
PS that's not me, it's my mate who's jeep it is.

For anyone interested, or just wondering... Yeah, you can fit a DT175 In/on the back of a Suzuki SJ
No trailer license = No problem.

Quick video... We live on a little private road so this is legal
That was from cold out the garage!

Looks good!

batteries arent expensive, Its the battery and a correctly wired regulator that will keep the bulbs from blowing
I might see. Really need to sort out important issues first though. You need a resistor if you don't have a battery

are you going to be using this on the road then?, How will it pass an MOT with no lights/horn
They run off the engine when I fix the electrics... You don't need a battery to pass just so long as all the lights work when the engine is running. My Dad and Unlce have both had bikes like this before... Just need a resistor to stop it blowing bulbs.
-
I assume you will be fitting a battery next, you will need the little fuse that is in the battery + wire as well
No not going to bother with one I'm afraid. Still need to figure the kill switch gremlin - When I took the bike to bits there was a ring connector on the bolt retaining the 2 stroke tank... I presume this is an Earth?
I hate electrics!

That is not the rectifier it is the voltage regulator. The voltage regulator has a yellow/white wire thet plugs into a single bullet socket also yellow/white. It also has a black wire that is secured using a ring terminal around the regulator mounting bolt, this black plugs into one of the black sockets in the pair you mentioned, the black from the battery negative plugs into the other.
so does this leave a yellow??? tell us more about this
Right so I'm missing a ring terminal then... And there is no battery so there is a brown plugged into a red further up the loom (as I pulled it). Yup on yellow which I have plugged into one of the wires from the RB switch.
-
Ah, so are the two black wires going into one female plug for an earth then?
I've got one yellow for the recifier (think it's called that), the other yellow for the brake switch and the brown for the brake switch (as of 10 minutes ago...

The black/white wire to the CDI is the engine 'kill' wire
when the keyswitch is off this wire is shorted to chassis
also when the keyswitch is on and the kill switch in not in RUN position this wire is again shorted to chassis
it follows then that when the keyswitch is ON and the kill switch is in RUN this wire is NOT shorted to chassis
what do you mean what is the brown wire coded for? dont understand the question
brown wire from/to what?
The engine will only get a spark with the black/white unplugged at the back... once I plug it in the spark disappears.
The brown wire branching off with the wires for the rear brake switch, what is it for? I can't find a plug for it.
Thanks for the help so far!
-
Not as yet but going to borrow one. I've found a black wire with a white stripe going into the rectifier (the thing behind the 2 stroke tank) and when that is plugged in then i don't get a spark at all.
Also, what is the brown wire coded for?

Got it started today but all the electrics are odd, as in they don't work. Also the ignition/kill switch doesn't work so you have to stall it to kill the engine. Keys make no difference either... Can't think what is missing

Beautiful job! It's come a long way from where you started.
Thanks, it has especially considering I was only planning on putting a new chain, fixing the brakes and then having it as a run about at the farm! Haha...

I saw that carrier sold on ebay recently didnt I ? Looks good
Yeah about £37 posted I think, just felt I wanted one and they don't come up too often. Just need some mirrors I think.
Cheers.

I thought it was to scythe pedestrians.
That too.

Looking good
Thanks. Home straight now...
yeah it looks good, that's a helluva sidestand
Haha yeah it's because it sits so tall, was basically falling over with the other one. It's about 20cm longer than standard. Will sandblast it at some point and paint it red.

All I've got left to do now is buff up my silencer, which I'll do wednesday and then it'll be fired up!
-
Will be back with the frame tomorrow if all goes to plan! Few pictures just before the head went on for the final time!
So it's had new head studs, a used but unmolested barrel rebored and honed to 1mm with a leading edge put on the ports, new seals all round, the neutral switch has been fixed and it's had a good lick of paint too.
-
Christ Harry this thing has flow together! top job, im guessing you have loads of free time on your hands!?
The two weeks I reassembled it was Easter Holiday... Which shows in my A level results as that's when we were supposed to be revising. Ha.
Hopefully won't be much longer. Glad i've spent this time on the engine... I'm fairly certain that the person who last had the thing in bits had an IQ that didn't quite reach double figures. The piston was the wrong size FFS.

Very quick pic taken today after dropping another £76 on the engine, how can Yamaha charge so much for so little! Sigh. Did manage to pick up a rear rack for about £30 on eBay the other day though so not all bad!
Promise the next photo will be a proper one!
Harry.

Yes I did get the V5, God knows how though as I got the previous owner and the colour wrong!
The fork dilema has again raised it's ugly head as I went to check on my baby the other day to find a nice puddle of fork oil on the floor. I'm keeping it as a 175 as I'm hoping to do my full test soon and get on it as a 1st bike. Would have been finished this week but I've had problem after problem after problem with the sodding thing and outsourcing some work to my Uncle means that everything has to be coordinated.
As soon as the engine is back in it'll be going back down to the farm that i got from originally so that I can get some experience on it while i do my test, then it'll be back in my garage to get it to an MOT able standard.
Harry.

Thanks I know it'd be a terrible shame to sell it but I've enjoyed it every step of the way, and it's a great thing to have on my CV at the moment given the type of work I want to go into. I have though about going about it that way but in honesty I just can't justify the expense, paperwork and pissing about with it at the moment.
I'll see what it comes to when I've passed my driving test as regards car and insurance because I might not have to sell it... It's a nice asset for me to have and it's not even taking up space in my garage
