  1. Yer there i s a wee bit to do but as long as i can get it into my conservatory next to the radiator at least i will be warm when doing it lol

why not intergrate the parts into a bobber/chopper? there are loads of style out there you could do that still enables you to have pillions and that, just need to do some resurch (sorry bout the spelling dislexia kicking in)

If you wanna up loads the pics your more than welcome when the weather gets better i will uncover her and take some more as i put on my new exhausts and that.

  2. Hi Guys, well after some nagging and also out of sheer bordom at work i thought i'd start a thread of my new projectits gunna take a while to finish as most of the big stuff will happen over the winter period when she is off the road.

Well it all started last year when i past my CBT and bought my self a XVS 125 Dragstar from Fowlers in bristol but due to me wanting something different i then set about turning that into a bobber and hand building pretty much every thing on it from the handle bar risers (my mate built them) all the way to me doing the seat click link to see it now for sale http://www.vandjsuperbikes.co.uk/new_bike_detail.php?bike_id=565&type=used&cat_id=142

So after this i rode about a little (as you do) and then the inevitable happens......i got bored and wanted faster and more torque so thats when i got my direct access done and passed with no faults at all on both Mod 1 and 2 so i was more than happy with that result and then it was stright down to the garage to buy the XVS650! SE WAS (AND STILL IS SLIGHTLY) in a bad way due to the previous owner miss treating her and not washing it or any thing again click the link to see the state of her http://www.vandjsuperbikes.co.uk/new_bike_detail.php?bike_id=508&type=used&cat_id=142

Well the first thing on the jobs to do was taking all that crap off of it and make her lighter and look a little more like a bike and less like a two wheeled house! spot lights met a 2.5lb hammer as they where no use to man nor beast but the sissy bar, engine crash bar, panya rests and the floor boards have now found a new owner who is Nickybwild on here. (pleasure doing business with you mate) i then gave her a much needed wash and polish which took me 2.5 hours just to do the polishing! the paint just kept soaking up the polish it a flash!

So that was the 1st few days of owner ship with her and it was fantastic, actually being able to go to work up hills and not loose power! still getting used to the weight of her and leaning it into the corners more now thinking i will need new keals on my boots soon as i keep draging them on the tarmac as i go round sertain bends lol.

last weekend i had my new set of handle bars delivered which i got off Amazon for £70 and they are 39" wide glide flier bars in matt black and are fantastic, also managed to get my bar end indectors on but just need to get some 1.2 ohm resistor put into the lines as they are blinking a bit faster than they should.

O i will add now that i will up load some pics some time this week as i need to find the lead to conect my phone to my laptop.

So the jobs to be done in the very near future are:

Powder coat the frame (x-mas time)

    New bobber rear fender

    New exhausts (delivered today)

White exhaust wrap (doing this week end)

Hypercharger or cone air filter (not sure yet)

    Engine tart up

re-paint the tins ice white and gloss black with a pin strip pattern

    New seat

    HEL braided brake line

Things i want to get if money allows me:

    Springer front end

Fat rear wheel kit including swing arm etc (BIG MAYBE)

These last two things are "long term goals" so could happen next year or the year after, and if i do get a springer front end then i will be running her on a day time MOT so i can get rid of the front light so you can see her in all her glory!

well i have yipped on long enough so gunna shut up now, i will up load pics as and when i can as i have a 2 month old babe as she takes up a fair bit of my time as you would expect.

    All the best

  3. Wire wool dose work we done it on my step dads vance and hines on his harley, it worked a treat but 5 mins later once they were nice a hot flaming bits of wire wool started coming out and then came the loverly noise :D looked f**king awsome too lol

Could always weld a plate onto the baffle to block 1/2 the hole on the baffle to re-direct the exhaust and also create some more back prssure which should make it quiter? tack it first so that if it dosen't work it is easy to take off?

  4. It could well be that the loverly chaps at Yamaha changed the design of the lights in those years but dont quote me on that. If he wrote down the messurments of the light and thay where the same as your light then it would be that he was giving false information but if he just said it was from a 02 bike then im afraid it would be that you ordered the wrong part in the eyes of E-bay.

Sorry to hear that your having dramas with it, i looked at my light last night whilst fitting my new wide flyer bars and its adjusted to the left so i just took off the sticker and if it fails the MOT next year then i will just put the sticker back on for the MOT then take it off again! simple :D

  5. See how you get on with the way you have them set up like you said you are mate, if the leavers are still giving you jip and are still un safe in your eyes that you cant reach them properly then look further into a set od dog legs or adjustables you may have to do a little customizing with different clamps but im sure with a little time and brain power you can do it.

  6. £1000 will get you Mod1 and 2 test plus your lessons = faster bike

125's are there to teach you at slow ish speeds how not to kill your self at stupid speeds they are forgiving at will let you know when you fucked up thus teaching you what not to do.....when you mess about trying to get more power then your lessons will be no more and you "may" come a cropper. I know they are slow and painful going up hills i hated mine as i have at least 4 hills on my way to work and going up them every day fucked me off big time but its due to that which made me go for my test and get a bigger bike. Now the hills are more fun at 0530 in the morning with my fat pipes sounding out over the fields :D

All the best and ride safe

    Keith

  7. Hey Mate welcome and congrats on passing the test, im in the same boat i just passed my Mod 1 and 2 and just got rid of my XVS 125 Bobber for a 650, and GUESS what! i have just taken off the following as im now turning my 650 into a bobber.

Sissy bar WITH rack, (high way hawk)

Front and rear floor boards (high way hawks)

    Engine Crash bars (highway hawk)

    Panya rests (not sure)

They are in "used" condition as the previous owner did not look after this bike and im having to pay for it (frame needs stripping and powder coating)

You are more than welcome to these at bargan price due to their condition let me know if your interested and we can

talk in more detail over the phone or e-mail.

    All the Best

  8. Keep looking for a set of leavers that your hands fit as if it comes to you needing to do and emergancy stop and you cant pull the brakes fully on then you wont have a leg to stand on (in more ways than one!)

Get your self a set of adjustable leavers, they have 4 different settings and im sure one of them will be the right one for your hands. Also change your brake lines for a set of HEL braided lines this will make your bike brake better and they look cool too. you make have to send your stock one off to them as they dont make a lot on them for 125's but they are well worth it!

  9. They are thinking about making a 5th Rambo!? not sure how it will go down and what the senario will be? also Mr Stalone is making another Expendables in 2012! the 1st was a brilliant and crap at the same time in the way that a over the top action film should be so im hoping that the 2nd will be the same! :D

  10. Right this coming Winter (some way away!) i am completely stripping down the Dragstar ready for powder coating and new shiney bits to go on but my question is to any one of you guys that has stripped their bike down is.......is the prop shaft dificult to dismantal / re-assemble? i have got both Hatnes manuel and Climer manuel but i wasn't sure if there was any thing "hidden" that s not said or not worded right in the books?

Also is there any thing else thats a bit tricky with the 650 to take apart? i did strip my XVS 125 and helped with my step dads 1988 Harley Sporster so i have "some" knoledge of bikes but as we all are im still learning.

Cheers for the advise (in advance)

    Keith

  11. sorry to highjack your thread a little, i have a vstar 650 which is an import.... but mine was imported by me(from canada), did you have to get a kph to mph cover/sticker thing, or did it come with one, as i cant find one thats for the vstar/dragstar???

i will also need a headlight but ill stick to the sticker thing for now

    joe

Hi Joe, My 650 came with a little gold block that converts the speedo cable to MPH and i have just got a MPH sticker on my clocks not sure where the previous owner got it from but im sure you can find one on e-bay?

As for the Head light on e-bay........my bid is in!

  12. Yes Batteries are the way forward but i truly think that perdestrian related accidents will rise, more so in children due to the lack of noise! we need the sound of a petrol (or devil diesel) to tell us that there is some thing coming, take a kid playing in the street and dose the stupid kids thing of crossing the road in betwwen two cars he will know im coming down the road due to my 650's V twin but if i had an electric bike / car he or she will think its clear and cross.

Yes elecric cars are the future but i think they should have sound some how?

  13. Ah i see, i mean i am only 23 but i really cant be arsed with all this shortened lingo the only one i use a fair bit is the LOL phrase.

Yer i have been serching the net now for a good 2 days to find a new (UK) head light but keep coming up with a slap in the face and a V-Star head light so i think you are right and may have to bight the bullet and fit a custom / fits every bike light just wanted toy avoid cutting wires as i hate electrics and like wiring as standard as possible, fenders and tanks are easy to put back to standard but wires aren't

    Cheers again

  14. IIRC, they're very different.

Can you not just take/scrape the sticker off?

Due to it being an Import the sticker needs to stay on in order to pass MOT's and be road legal on the roads, just like you cant buy car head lights from America as they are set up a different way as they drive on the right.

Sorry what does IIRC mean lol? not really up to date with the old shortened words

  15. I am an Ex tank driver from the British army and i suported two charities while serving which where the army berneverlent fund and the royal british leagion (still a member) after becoming injured and being discharged i could no longer support both so now i only support the RBL and when i can i give to the Help for hero's. What every this new one thats come out is doing maybe in good spirits but has definatly picked the wrong words to promote their charity.....if they are trying to help our troops it needs to be some thing with out the words afgan, or terrorist, or what not in the wrist band.

But we should all rememeber the money dose get to the place it should! i was in rehab for 9 months and if it wasn't for charities such as SAFA the RBL and Spaces i would most definatly be one of the very many homeless people on the streets! they all bent over backwards to get me into a flat with the bar minimum to live on. for 2 weeks i lived on baked beans on toaste as thats all i could afford i couldn't even afford to have my heating on so in the mornings i had to scrape the ice off my windows lol I agree that SOME charities are over the top and that Oxfam HQ takes the p*ss but please do be blinded by the few that take it too far.

  16. Hey all,

Well i picked up my XVS 650 last Friday and she is going well , but the problem i have at the moment is that she is an import and has the little black sticker on the headlight to convert her and it looks tacky! i cant seem to find a genuine 650 Yammy head light any where (uk version) but can find a XVS125 head light easy,

Sooooo do you cleaver chaps know / think the 125 head light will fit in the bracket and just be a plug and play job rather than chopping wires etc?

    All help is greatfully received

    Rgds

  17. Hi and welcome,

It would be a bad chioce to add another gear to this bike as it would most likely slow is down and put too much strain on the engine due to its low torque and im pretty sure that it's not possible to add another gear. Changing up a tooth or down a tooth on the spoket is your best option and is very easy to do if you have some basic knowledge of machanics and a good set of tools, just remove the left hand plastic cover remove the chain (may have to take out the rear wheel if you have an endless chain) then you should then be able to take out and change your sprocket.

All the best and hope all gose well.

  18. O and if you do drop the rear end as paul White sugested (good idea... i too was gunna drop mine) you may have to re-do your

chain as the angle will be different and the original chain may not cut the mustard. ;) i have looked into all of this

and you cant buy shorter shocks for this bike so they will have to be custom made for you, or just make some struts up with

some hard wearing polly bushes. ;)

  19. Hey bud good looking bike you have there! as for the handle bars............

i got mine off e-bay from a Norton, 7/8" bars with 3" risers

check out my intro page for pics

As for your indecators id be inclined to place them in your pillion peg bolt holes (may have to tap them out to a bigger thread)

and just get your self a side number plate holder and brake light set.

    et valar

  20. Im not 100% sure on the XVS 650 just at this moment in time as im not picking mine up till Friday so cant reallt say if they will fit or not? i know i had to modify my new risers on my XVS 125 but that was only due to the fact that finding after market parts for that bike is like looking for rocking horse s**t.

I do know the Americans do tond of stuff for the V star (dragstar in England) just Google aftermarket parts for that bike and im sure you will come up with a set that will just bolt on. ;)

  21. Hi Paul,

Welcome.....where bouts in Southampton are you? i used to live in Thornhill but now live down in Yeovil Somerset, still have all my family scattered over Southampton so i do visit regularly so if im ever down that end i wouldn't mind meeting up in the local Pub or what not.

    All the best

    Keith

  22. I have a set of bars from a Norton on my XVS 125 and have had to put a set of 3" risers on in order for the controls to clear the tank, you will also have to get the brake cable re-made so that its shorter and re-route the other cables so that they are'nt in the way and looking tacky.

As for the riding possision and handleing, i find that it handles better with stright bars as your body weight is up front and you can turn in quicker and lean more into the corners and it totally changes the look of the bike!

Here is mine when i was building it back up.

    DSC00283.jpg

    DSC00266.jpg

As you can see they are old pics and i was still waiting on my 3" risers to turn up to sort out the cables etc. All in all i think it cost me a total of £30 to do that mod.....£10 for the bars (e-bay) £10 for the risers (again e-bay) and roughly £10 for the brake line (HEL)

  23. Hi Mate, i like the fact a lot of work has gone into the bike! well done, as for the price.........its not the original engine is it..? my XVS125 bobber has just fetched me £1500 part ex but in the little black book they are going for £900!!! shocking unfortunatly as you may know customising things de-values them and i think you best bet for insurance i say value it at around about £2000 - £2500 reason being that a standard second hand XVS125 normally go for about £2k ish but seeing that its a custom jobber id value it at a bit more so that if the worst is to happen at least you can get the money to buy another standard one if you wanted!

Just my 2p tho hope all goes well and keep up the good work

    Keith
