wow
if yours are going the right speed then mine are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to fast
ill slow it down
cheers for the help
i plan at some point when i have some doh to put a rev counter on it... that should clere up any dout
-
ok i think there is some miss understanding as to what i was asking...
there are any number of vids on youtube yes... but alot of people set there idle too low so it sounds like a HD burble, which isnt fast enough for a 650's oil delivery.
was gonna set it to about 1200....setting the idle is easy, but with no rev counter i dont know if its going 1200 or 10 000, and with the aftermarket cans it all sounds differant aswell.
i was asking if there are any vids of bikes on youtube with an aftermarket exhaust that people think sounds about right for a correct idle speed so i can set it by ear
as noise says. if i take my hand off in 5th it will only engine breake down to about 23 then the idle speed of the engine is enough to keep it at that speed.....although i do infact have cruse control anyway
cheers

odd question i know,
never noticed with stock pipes but my vance and hines ones i really do, not sure if its been too fast the entire time or if not rejetting has caused it...
or if im paraniod and its normal, which would be anoying.....
i know there supposed to idle quite quick. but mine sounds stupid, it goes at about 23mph in 5th at idle
anyway, does anyone know of a video on the tube of a bike with similar aftermarket pipes with it idleing at what sounds like the right speed, i dont mind setting it by ear
im tempted to just get a rev counter for it
cheers

I have a simple answer to scrapping the floorboards. Learn a better cornering technique. I can corner reasonably quick with my Dragstar and rarely ever have anything other than the tyes in contact with the road.
your years of riding make me look like a child
but thats just not true, i get taken the piss out of for how slow i ride a bike, i like cruuuuuuzing around, im not bothered about fast,
and even i have had the pegs scrapping a few times, and i wasnt going that quick on either occation. if the boards that someone else fitted to a bike are fitted lower then the pegs should be, or they are wider, or both, then you could be scrapping them with ease
it scared the crap out of me both times i did it, i dont like it
on a side note, i also get ribbed for having compleatly unmarked knee sliders on my leathers.... on my vstar lol
-
you could add a few bhb with new pipes, rejet, hypercharger and so on
dont see the point really, if you have gixxer fine, but its never gona add much, and gaining a tenth round a track isnt really the point of these bikes
yes you can get pegs instead of boards
there are plenty of people on the tubeyou who have drilled it out, there are vids of people doing it, the main problem with it if you do it, is noone is gona buy the bike off you when you come to sell it, cirtanly wouldnt buy one like that
although it does make it louder
-
if they are that good and quick to put in and out i might even get some for those 3am start/finishes
and as for my job... industrial and manly... weeeellll im just gona let you think that lol

also, after swapping bikes with my mate the other day (gsx650f), my mate claimed my bike was too loud to ride, so its not just you
i have noticed with the pipes that you can really hear how fast the idle is, im not sure if mine is too fast as everyone says that about these, i need to go down the ace cafe on a bike night and find some people with the same bike and compare
... or bodge on a rev counter
-
i've had it at close to the ton, on the oem pipes, probably 90-95 real speed, pinned open, on a flat
but when i got to a hill, not a very steep one mind, i just looses speed
although this was trying to keep up with a guy on a 160bhp (rear wheel dyno) vrod and a guy with a 'only' 120 cubic inch s&s engine, considrablly more overloaded then in that picture.. thing brick with engine,
i havent really givin it much of a run since it got home so maybe not overloaded it'll be better
-
yeah i only where earplugs cos of wind blast, not cos of my pipes, there nowhere n
ear loud enough to need them a anything below 40
i live in london, so getting to 30 is often hard enough
but i have a crap htc helmet....... its crap
I can't wear ear plugs as I find they cause me to feel so disengauged from whats happening around me, which make me feel quite unsafe,
lots of people say that about earplugs, but i have to use them at work all the time so im used to it.... couldnt ride with headphones and music though, i would be dead withing 500 foot
as for my pipes being e-marked, i never checked...... but ill have a look
-
That's what the 1100 is for!!
never thought i would say a 650 isnt powerfull enough for me,, i thought that was what d*** heads said showing off........ but it really isnt, it can hold 70 if its on a hill
if i had the money i would swap it for the 950 in as heartbeat

She be a fine lookin' ride Joe! Where was that taken?
errrm somewhere close to yellowstone, to the east of it, on that day i rode down that mountin road and went through a forest and a desert
its no wonder they dont have passports
-
Well fearless, it's all subjective right? I mean I like the sound of the v&h's as well, I just think they're too loud, and that's without really opening the taps. Try hitting the motorway at 70 for an hour or so, and then see how many days it takes for the ringing in your ears to go away! ;-)
Also there is the issue of getting pulled over by the police every so often if your pipes are too loud.
i would never ride down the motorway without earplugs, ive made that mistake before, on my star and my ears are ringing anyway
my er5 was louder and ive never been pulled
and that had no baffle, even if i got pulled on my star its legal sooo...
each to there own i guess, you can get db killers but i dont know how good they are
-
i just fitted a V&H exhaust,..... have no pics of it though
but i took this pic of it on my road trip
-
i just fitted (yesterday) the exact same exhaust to my star 650
except i think we differ in opinion, its no louder then my remus was on my er5 and all the backfire and overun burble is exactly the point of putting an exhaust like this on
i like it alot
-
its taken a while, but he/she is legal
wana get a nice stupid exhaust once ive sold my old bike
and if anyone wants a headlight of an 02 650 its in my hall and i dont need it
i took out all of the black sludge (oil) that was in it, got 3 and a half letiers out with out changing filter and thats not including the massive puddle of it in my front garden..... no wonder it leaks lol
gona leave it a week and see if it is still leaking and if it is get the socket set out
-
intresting... i might take a punt and try buy a newer one then
seeing as some are lised as 04-upwards i'll go for a 03 or older i spose
this is if i can even find one, they are really on the fleebay

they all look same, i just dont know if they all fit the same, electronically, some of them are listed as o4 and up and so on
there is a 99 for sale..... from the usa, but thats a pain in the ass
was hoping someone might have actually swapped one out at some point so i would know
but chears for the advice all the same

my 99 650 vstar is going to need a new speedo, its going to be the easyest way to get it legal, does anyone know if one from a different year is a straght swap, or do i need a 99
like one of these for example
-
the book, and the sticker on mine, say to use 10w30 or 20w40, but i've only ever used 10w40 as its all could get where i was, and since then my local bike place said thats what they would put in it anyway
i tried to change my oil today funnily enough, but i cant get the dam drain bolt to undo
-
The 9 day trip sounds good. I was thinking of just shooting off and leaving the world behind for a month .. perhaps thats too long.
I have plenty of time to plan :-)
Thanks again Dirty
noooo not to long, my first and as yet only actual bike trip was 2 months, just me, a tent no plan no map no money, just go its the only way
-
There's your problem.
As mentioned, get your bike upright and level. Drain oil down to correct level and there you go.
Might take a couple of goes to cycle the excess oil out.
are you saying the fact there is too much oil in it could be whats stopping it working???
-
hello again
i found another dragstar headlight on ebay, not the one listed above, and got it......., to replace mine.... BUT, i foolishly thought it would be the same size, and its not, its at least an inch if not more smaller diamiter, and looks stupid compared to the one on my vstar
does that mean the guy was lieing/wrong, and it is in fact not of a dragstar, or do the dragstar and vstar have different size headlight??
the one i got was off a 02 and my bike is an 99???
