  1. Second time lucky, I hope.

what I was trying to say was:

The choke wasn't on, and I have not messed around with the screws myself, dont know what the previous owner may have done, but Ive had the bike since July and would have thought it would have done it before.

I reckon I'll have the carbs looked at / balanced to be sure, as I know about as much as a dead frog about this stuff.

Cheers everyone - hope this posts right this time.

  2. So, let me get this right, what your saying is

Choke not on, but I guess it could be stuck. Not mucked about with the screws myself, but again, could be...

Hmm, PC went a bit mad, posted some half written rubbish 3 times and then crashed on me. Just got back on now! Apologies for the garbled crap.

  3. Hmmm....... mine isn't the quietest bike (XT-Z) on the block, but it does do 300 miles to the tank. So I can't agree with this.

It sounds a bit 'off' does that, I mean I can get 120 out of the XJR and that's a 1300cc bike, with some spirited riding. You might want to have a think about the mixture, is the choke on while running ? Stuck maybe ? or has someone been playing with the mixture screws in a past life ? It wouldn't do any harm to have this checked and the carbs balanced while they are at it.

  6. Evening everyone,

Me again, after yet more advise. Oh the joys of being new to the bike maintenance game!!

Took the bike out over the weekend and all seemed fine. Filled up and off I went. However, when I'd done about 90 miles, it started to splutter as if low on fuel, so I turned on the reserve. All back to normal after I re-filled at the nearest garage. My question is: It usuaully does about 120 miles before I need more juice! Anyone have any ideas on why this has suddenly happened?

    Cheers guys!

  7. Hi Guys.

Thanks for all your comments, I guess I should have started by listing the things I have done already. Might have been useful!!

I also wondered if it was being starved of fuel, so I took the fuel pump out and tested it ( with assistance! )as someone said the pumps are rubbish on this model, but its actually very efficient.

All been a useful experience, as I've learned a lot, but still frustrating. :(

  8. Welcome bigbird " i would check the air filtre etc, see if they"ve been renewed at the service, did they show you the old plugs ? Good garages will display your old plugs ,old brake pads etc,;)

Thanks blackhat. I actually changed the plugs and filter myself when I got the Bike in July.

  9. Give it a good service first to see will it help any before you jump into doing the things suggested.

Cheers - it had a full service when I had it MOT'd in August :(

  10. Hey welcome Bogbird bigbird for another tarting point, how about carb balancing (syncing) ?

Again, thanks! So much to learn, all a bit mind blowing really..

  11. Hi everyone. Im new to the forum and to riding. Passed my test at the end of August and have an XJ600 Divvy, which I ride everywhere and love. It has a couple of little niggles, one of which being it does not idle very well, and another being it looses power at low revs. Can anyone shed any light on possible causes please? Thank you.

  12. Thanks for that - it has new plugs and filter, and I even had the pump apart last weekend, and that works fine. Pumps fuel nearly 1m up! Bit of a mystery to me. France was great thanks, I get over a lot as my dad lives in Normandy. Great biking, and great people. Really reccomend it. where are you planning on touring?

  13. I bought my XJ600 divvy this summer, my 1st bike after pssing my test. We have two in our garage, which both run really well. Been over to France on mine recently, ran smoothly, 120 miles to the tank. Had a couple of starting issues when I first got it, but starts first time after a service and damn good run! It does loose power between 2.5-3 rpm :( Not a flash bike, but great fun to ride.
