  1. has anyone got a cdi box for a 1981 sr250?ive have tried everything but it to fix my problem with bike cutting out intermittently like it losses spark for a short time[flicking kill switch].the bike has been at an auto spark now for a week and he cant find the problem.before you ask ive done all the fuel.vacum, air leak checks and i mean everything.so this is my last thing to try.problem is i dont have much money so no ridiculous prices please.

  2. Excuse me for the late reply, I haven't been online because of my new work and I have been working a lot. :banghead:

Each time I set the lever in the PRI position, fuel leaked through the carburator.

I removed it for cleaning and checked the float too. Then I reassembled all back.

When I started the motor, I realized that it has a not desired air entry because it can't hold the idle. I must search this failure.

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks in advance.

    Backfire

where was it leaking from on the carb?as for not holding idle.what makes you think is not getting air?it may be getting to much air.check that the rubber boots engine and airfilter side are air tight and have no cracks or tears in them.if you can keep the engine running, spray carb cleaner around the boots and if the bike revs up you have a leak.
  3. is your tank venting properly skik...can you hear air being sucked in after you open the cap following a ride?

cant hear any sucking.right.carb taken off and cleaned.no sign of water.new plug, not new but filter cleaned with filter cleaner, oiled and put back on,battery charged and ht lead sprayed.took it for a run and only got about 1/2 a mile when it cut out.started straight up again first push of the button.so took it home again.starting to think its electrical because of the backfire last time.could it be it stopped sparking, fuel still going into cylinder, resparks,to much fuel, bang heance backfire right icon_question.gif .anyway took off headlight, tank, seat and side panels.started bike and looked at all wires and connections.could'nt see anything wrong.shook and played around with wires but nothing happened.so maybe not electrical.what next????

i don't have an inline filter, must put one on.as for air sucking in,never noticed as i checked to see if i had run out of fuel but will check again and let you know.also will clean out carb.
  5. the last few times i went out for a run on my sr250 it cut out after 15-20 miles.it was like i had flicked the kill switch.it starts up again ok but keeps doing it now and again.today though it started up again but after a big backfire.where do you think i should start looking?

  6. hi all.a back shock snaped on me as i tried to adjust the preload[sr250].anyway im going to get a new set.there are these ones on ebay for sr250 but it says 300mm pin to pin.the ones i have are more like 315mm.can i go ahead and buy them?

  7. Whats the make and model of the carb? A buddy of mine had his float valve stick open on his drz400 and it filled the crankcase with fuel. Im not sure if this was the product of a clogged relief or if there was no relief like you suspect with yours.

not sure of model but its a 34mm Mikuni carburetor cv type
  8. Have a look at your PM's on the forum.

that manual is for the 125 model.mine is a 1981 sr250.looking at the cam chain tensioner on it,the rod sits out from the locknut but on mine the rod is flush with the locknut thats why i cant screw the wee nut in flush.if i could only get a pic up you would be able to see what im on about
  9. In terms of the cam chain. I hope you haven't tightened it up too much. The chain should have some slack in it so it might be worth checking that when you check the alignment marks.

DO you have a manual for the bike?

i dont have a full manual just bits of oline stuff.i started the bike this morning and there is no knocking but a whineing noise.im thinking i might have the chain to tight.when you say tighten the wee nut in till its flush with the inner rod do tou mean the bottom of the nut or right in so as you cant get the spanner round it anymore<a%20href=DSCF3484.jpg
  10. i think the thread pitch may be fine and not the usual thread for whatever diameter they are...if they arent stripped why change them, they are probably high tensile too!

was the nut loose? or just the gap had grown?

you have been tinkering with the tensioner and not knowing how its done?

perhaps the chain jumped a cog, check the alignment marks again

the nut did'nt seem loose but the wee adjuster was away up.no way did i set it there.when i did set them at the start i checked and rechecked.anyway how come it went noisy all of a sudden, there was only a slight ticking before.awell fingers crossed for tomorow when i start it.
