  1. I was wondering if anyone knows a (simple?)way to get a wider rear tire for a 78 xs750 special. I would prefer to avoid any major welding but I am open to suggestions that would require it too.

For those unfamiliar with this bike, it is a shaft drive so it's not just a simple matter of getting a wider rim and spacers for the sprocket/pulleys to get proper chain/belt alignment.

So far I've come up with:

    1. cutting apart the swingarm or a few swingarms and rewelding them to allow for a wider wheel

    2. getting a swingarm for a different bike with a wider wheel and adapting my frame to take the swingarm.

    3. converting it to chain or belt drive.

Also, I am aware that the 850's had a wider back tire but I was hoping to get a little more width than a 130/90. Preferably a 150 width or more.

    hi there

I'm just wondering how you got on.

    please let us know.

    I ride xs triples too

  2. it's just that I have ridden Yamaha nearly all my life, since 1975.

and now a neighbour comes along and says he bought himself a XJR1300 and he insists that it is a V twin.

so I had an argument with him and told him that he does not have a clue because it's a inline 4.

he is one of them sort of people who know everything......

but I can't remember seeing him riding a bike before.

    I just thought I make a point.

I ride XS 750 and I'm very happy with the bike, I have 4 of them.

    The sound is great.

  3. I am wondering if anyone can help me with this one:

the Yamaha bikes have a prefix like XS, RD, XJR, XV, and so on...

can you tell me what them letters mean?

ok XV : the V means that it is a V engine. what are all them other letter meaning?

  4. hi everyone,

a few weeks ago i became the owner of a yam xs 750 special,i got it as a second bike and as my other bikes a sports bike i wanted to try something completely different so went for a cruiser, its a 1978 so i have the intention of making it look a little more pretty than it did when i picked it up,ive resprayed the frame, polished up the engine and look to replace some chrome parts ect,my question is does anyone know if these 750 specials share the same engines as the uk spec xs 750?,i'll be looking to buy filters, fork seals ect and am wondering where to buy spares.

    any help appreciated,ta :D

    hi there

a good choice you made there.

the engines are basicly the same, there are minor changes over the years.

your bike is probably a 1J7....

have a look at this site, there you will find a parts manual and also parts to buy, the manuals are free.

    http://www.cmsnl.com

then you should try these 2 links aswell, you will find a welth of info there.

if you need any more help then please ask.

  5. Is there anyone who rides a xs 750 triple?

I would like to hear from you about your bike.

I have a xs 750 se and some other xs 750's.

  6. hi there

yes it is the crank breather, normaly conected to the air filter.

if you don't have the original air filter fitted the I would get a small filter to fit on to the end of the tube, make sure you do NOT block this pipe of.
