Oh yes, I have to admit... it was a stupid question What are you using a cruiser for?! For cruising of course
My only concern was that these bikes with the small engine are not suited properly for long rides on high speeds abocve 60-70 mph. My bike is a bit noisy, but today at the cruiser workshop the guy assured me that everything is working fine, all the noises are normal for this type of bikes (V-twin engined).
So... this weekend, I eventually get to Cornwall if the weather is good
Your guy at the cruiser workshop is right. The SVS 125 engine is noisy. Mine is. I know exactly what you mean and can be very off putting when you ride long distances. Two 8 mm holes on each exhaust helps to take your mind away from the engine noise lol. Search here for a topic regarding alterations to front and back sprockets if you want to make your bike smother. I did it and believe me was the best improvement I did on my bike

Thanks for the link mate
I don't see the number of question marks being used as a point worth picking up on in a conversation where people are trying to help you out. Kind of annoyed me when I read that.
Also, yes, it was a straight forward question - but I think we've given you an adequate answer. I think Paul's given you a link to a place that sell them, and we've told you that they are out there. We have continued (vaguely) the topic because other people may find information useful, such as those who may not want to spend £400 on a set of forward controls and just want the pegs upgraded to look nicer (ref. my link) - perhaps that's what you had in mind - little did I know you were so intent on the posture more than the style of the foot-pegs.
I apologise on my behalf (Paul can apologise for himself) for trying to help out and suggest ways in which you might be more satisfied with the bike. I'm sorry I can't pluck a link out of thin air, and link it to you. If I could be bothered to go on google and have a shop about, I would, but thats something I'm sure you are perfectly capable of doing. I'm also pretty sure I've seen this thread before somewhere else on the forum. The technical term is UTFSE.
OH, and here:
-
Please mate no need to put 3 ??? on a question I can read the first one.
Its not a question of footpegs its a question of riding position and although I'm only 5'9 I fancy forward controls.
Thats all.
My thread was a straight forward question for a possible straight forward answer.
Just asked for a possible link
Regarding your invitation for the protest tomorrow. Sorry mate I can't make it.
I've got a bigger rod. YUK.
anyway IF you live in London, fancy coming to the Bike Parking Protest tomorrow??? I'd agree with paul on this one, I'd get a nice set of 'zorsts for the girl. People will notice them much more than the controls - both in appearance and sound. If you just dont like the stock footpegs, try these http://www.customwizard.com/product_desc.php?id=1127 as a much cheaper alternative.

If I'm honest mate, although they're gonna look good, is it worth it?
How long you planning on having the bike for. Are you on L plates? If so, then you should wait until you've got a bigger bike. Paul's right, the only one's I've seen are real expensive, and if you're looking to sell the bike, probably not a worthwhile investment...
Sorry I can't help much and, yet again, I'm offering my less than perfect/more than opinionated, point of veiw
Chris
Thanks mate.
You got a point there. And I appreciate your opinion.
I plan to keep this bike for a few years. I'm not on L plates and could get a bigger bike if I trade this one but like you, I live in London and and this bike is just ideal. Not to mention that my son will be 16 tomorrow LOL.

Does anyone know where to get some bolt-on forward controls for a xvs 125?
This is the kind of thing I'm looking for:
-
Bear in mind that the plate is convex so you need to start with a 3mm bit just to get the first hole.
I did two 3mm holes in each exhaust and then increased to 6 mm. A month later I increased each hole to 8mm and I'm planing a third 6 mm on each exhaust.
Two 8mm holes in each exhaust is not that loud at all when idling, just deeper sound.
At full throttle still quieter than a 2 stroke but nicer.

Try TRANSIL is American made and is the same wwd 40. I'm sure is avaiable there.
-
I'll probably be there mate
Chris

Hi Paul
is the cbr engine from a Honda?
Anyway the terrain in the the UK is much more flat compare to other regions of Europe or the world. If you were an Albanian or Swiss rider things could be different but as a cruiser in this country I would go for 2 up at the front an 3 down at the back. As you know I did mine 2 up (front) 2 down (back) but I will go for 3 down back if I had to do it all over again.
Just an opinion mate.

The part number for the 100 jet is 004-285 from MC Motocarb. Call Steve on 0151 238 4170.
I hope it helps
-
I would say Yes.
Almost 2 weeks now with 2 up on the front 2 less at back and jet from 90 to 100. If I had to do all over again I would go for 3 less at the back without a shadow of a doubt.

Thanks Guys

I'm looking for a curved pillion pad like the one in this link

Does anyone knows where to get it here in the UK?
Thanks

just do me a favour and keep a CLOSE eye on the oil quality! all these mods will wear down the piston rings a little faster (and replacements are like gold dust) plus if the oil quality goes down the toilet so will the bottom end! (trust me iv had 2 engines fail on me at the crank!) so yeah good job! just keep an eye on it
I will Paul.
Can you recommend some good oil?

UPDATE
Finally I had the main jet replaced together with a new smaller rear sprocket.
So the modifications so far are as follows:
2 up in the front sprocket (from 16 to 18)
2 down in the rear sprocket
Main jet replacement (from 90 stock to 100).
End result?
Guys, if you own a xvs 125, my honest advice is, go for it. You won't regret it. My bike is now much smoother, more ridable and faster.
Just to give you an idea, I can now cruise at 40mph in 4th with more or less the same revs that I used to do in 5th so if I now shift to 5th I still cruise at 40mph but with less revs but with a much smother ride and plenty more speed if I just decide to rev.
My mechanic thinks that the funny whistling noise my engine is making when hot is due to an exhaust leak (see my other thread) so I will look into to that but as far as changing the ratio and jet is concerned I'm extremely happy.
-
You have good points there.
I will check them all.
Thanks mate
-
Here is place where I thing the whistling noise comes from but then again I'm not sure
-
Paul
It does it all the time once the engine gets warm. Even when idling. Never when is could.
My first incline was some kind of leak but then again could be a bearing that is about to cease.
Thanks a lot for pointing me where the clutch is and how to pin a pic.
All the best mate
-
Please can someone tell me how to add a pic to the topic? I'm very worried with this engine noise and I would love to know what is behind the engine cover if is the dynamo or the clutch. I suspect it can be a ceased bearing.
