The XS, TX and RDs were parts bin bikes-many many XS650 parts and RD350/400 parts will work and don't forget the TX500 has the exact engine. You just have find the time to cross reference. Besides nwcp, speedandsport.com has a lot of parts but you really need to know the part number with them. Also try hvccycle.com I have really good luck with them, they sell RD stuff but it crosses over. Make sure all the cams and valves are adjusted to spec with this engine or you will suffer performance wise.

I am modifying a 1974 TX500 to use a rear disc brake using a 76 RD400 as a guide. Here's the problem: In all my cross referencing I've found the RD uses a caliper that is the same part number as the TX front caliper (which I have many of).
The RD connects the rear brake line directly to the caliper with a banjo bolt- The brake calipers that I have collected are fronts of a TX ( same part number as the RD rear)- The TX caliper will not accept a banjo bolt they are setup to connect using pipe with a tapered threaded connector. The tapered hole will not accept the banjo bolt- What am I overlooking? They are the same part # but it doesn't work. Any thoughts would really help.

Phil's procedure is the same one I use- just went through that last week. My tip is to be sure the phillips driver tip you use seats nicely in the screw they strip out fairly easy especially if it hasn't been adjusted for awhile they can be stubborn (I know from experience).
