  1. Hello mate! just to saythe best 2-stroke oil to use is Castrol TT in a black bottle! Silkoline is crap really.. MOtorex is the best but its to thick to run through the oil pump... I've herd so mch about this wire and earthing it off to the frame! but which 1 is it??? That little seethrough ovel thing behind the speedo duz nothink when taken out or cut lol. bt i would'nt mind finding this wire u earth off? My 2001 DT125R duz 95 and 105 down hill.. easy, All i've done is on my power valve cables no1 is all the way down and no2 is fully out and I have a full Dep.

    When you sat it aint reving over 7000 is yrz electric power valve? if so on the left hand side of the barrow is the power valve take the little cover off and you will see a black plastic thing with two cables coming down either side and in the middle will be a screw which is put there when new to restrict it! when you've taken it off start the bike and rev it and you will see it move slightly then take the screw out thats in the middle and rev it again and it should move alot more and yr bike will rev off the clock!!! wb soon....

    Hello mate its me again. When i said the screw in the middle of the black plastic thing i didnt mean the 1 that holds it on i ment the one slightly off centre.... cheers give us a ring if stuck on 07770570118.

    I don't know what else to do so I'm posting here to get some help. I bought a Yamaha DT125R, 2001 version.

    Everything seems to be really okay, except it wont rev over 7000 rpm with third or more gear. First two gears go into red area of rev meter. It sometimes revs over 7000 rpm when standing still in neutral, but then falls back to exactly 7000 rpm.

    Some of my electrics did not work, like the horn and blinkers, so I removed the light to see what's going on. I think the previous owner made a mess there, but got them working again. I read something about a "reed switch" which restricts rpm-s to go over 7000 rpm (?). I opened the speedo and saw it had a cut wire going into it (white with a black stripe) and there was a switch mounted between that wire (wire itself headed into speedo with other 3 wires, but only 2 wires went into light bulb of speedo, the other 2, including the cut one, went to white and oblong plastic thingy which had a glass cover on it and two little pinchcocks in it). I removed the mounted switch (not the reed switch ?) as it was doing literally nothing. But then I found out I must not cut the reed switch wire (if it is that wire?) and went desperate because it was already cut. What can I do to remove that RPM restriction? I should say my speedometer cable is broken, ordered a new one from a local Yamaha dealer (that can't be the problem, right?).

    I cleaned the carb, cleaned the air filter and put some special air filter oil in it, changed all the oils and the problem remained so I'm guessing it's electrically restricted.

    Any kind of help is REALLY appreciated! Thanks!

  3. IVE GOT A 06 DT125R IT DOSE 73 MAXED OUT STANDARD, IVE HERD BY ALOT OF PPL YOU CAN GET 90 OUT OF THEM HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE ? AND WHAT WAYS CAN I MAKE IT ALOT FASTER, I ALSO SEEM TO LOOSE POWER IN GEAR 5 WHATS THIS ALL ABOUT ???

    CAN SUM1 HELP ME OUT ON THIS PLEASE. BE MOST APPRECIATED. THX. :D

    yeah it is possible to get 90+. You need a Full dep pipe and to ajust the power valve cables! Don't bother with these exausts: Big One and Arrow..

    I have a 2001 DTR125 and it tops out at 100mph and all I done was full dep and set up the power valve cable no: 1&2..

    16t sprocket on the front and 52 on rear. I also hear about this ovel speedo restrictor behind the speedo and a wire that goes into the speedo sumink about chopping it and earthing it off to the frame?? I duno i dnt wana really do it if it does'nt work!

    My mate has a 2001 DT125 RE and I've done the same as mine and his is very fast. He does'nt have a rev limiter and it just pulls and pulls alot faster than mine!! Only thing is is that I have a Y1 head and Y2 bottom where he has a Y2 head and a Y1 bottom. Not sure if thats wat it is???? What DT have you got? where u frm???? wb soon!!!!

  4. is it worth gettin a DEP SILENCER for my DT125R how much of a diffrence will it make? and in what ways? also ive heard standard silencer is better is that true ? thanks

    No a standard silencer isn't better! I have a full dep and its alot better it revs out to 12rpm.. Don't bother buying a big one exaust because they crack off at the flange and they don't really make a differance it just sounds nice!!!

  5. The only mod i found worth doing and is free is the cable earthing behind the speedo, the exhasut makes you acceleration a fair bit better but is expensive and thin metal so easy damagable.

    Im honestly glad i got my dep as all the guys i go out with have 650 supermotos etc and a bit more power is appreciated to help keep up.

    Dont bother touching reed valves or jets as you will be causing more work and money for nothing.

    Iv also been clocked by a BMW GS1200 at 85mph and with a sat nav :D

  6. 90mph haha dont think so my 660c does 110mph tops so ure almost asking the imposible unles u want to do big bore kits and bigger carb messing with the gearing

    u will be lucky to get 80mph and thats geting sports exhaust replaceing the air filter uping the jet sizes in the long run its not worth the hastle you might as well do ure full license and get a biger bike like i did

    sorry to burst ure bubble but to get 70mph out of it aint bad at all

    Well mate I have bad news for you! my DT tops out at 105mph. all it has is a full dep and ajusted power valve cables. 16t sprocket on front and 52 on back lol
