  1. Hey guys,

Over the course of my XS 250 rebuild bought a pair of XS 650 handlebar switches, had to splice some terminals because everything didn't match up properly...putting everything back now and I'm having some problems.

Now...if I kept the original switches, everything would be good except for the 2 2-into-1 green and brown terminals (which I have been told are indicators) having no matching terminals. Now with the new switches, they have a home but the black and blue terminal from the RHS switch no longer has a match (which I think is the lights on/off switch). With everything plugged in now except for that, none of the lights, indicators or horn works. I don't know if that's because things aren't plugged in right, they have been spliced incorrectly or everything has to be in series for it all to work?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks guys

  2. At the risk of sounding like a drongo...where do the throttle cables go for my new Mikuni VM carbs? I know they go through the top but aren't sure where they 'attach' to, do you thread it through the needle retainer plate or something?

    Cheers

  3. Putting together the crankcases, when I tighten the bolts the crankshaft gets stuck/so stiff it can barely be moved. I've taken the cases apart numerous times, but can find anything that would cause this. The only thing I can suggest is the upper crankcase pushing down on the crankshaft, but that wasn't happening before? And there was little-no gasket cement when I initially took it off.

This has cost me 2 days of work on an already limited timeframe so any help would be much appreciated

  4. if you have the mounting for a caliper on the left side, you can use SR500 caliper and caliper mount (it even says left on the mount) you can get disks either from ebay or maybe the sr (not sure!) you then need to make up some new hoses as they will have to go from the master cyl using a double banjo.

you also need an XS1100/750/850 master cylinder to push more brake fluid.

the wheel has a plastic cover on with drillings for the brake disk.

What's wrong with using the master cylinder from the 650? Was also planning on keeping the 250 disk, or is this a no-no?

  5. G'day guys,

Want to give my XS 250 better brakes up the front, are 650 brakes compatible (in terms of mounting bolts etc) with 250/400 wheels? Or am I better off going for something else.

    Cheers

  6. Having a look for some replacement 32mm carbs, was searching for Mikuni VM 32's and came across a forum about a blokes CB 350, people are suggesting swapping his 32's for some 30's or 34's. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to carburettors; is it possible to use different sized carbs than what is stock? XS's use BS 32's which are as rare as hen's teeth, but is it possible to use BS 34's or say, a pair of VM 32's?

    Cheers

  7. G'day everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself. Restoring an '80 XS 250 but thinking of putting a 400 engine in instead, parts and even just engines are a bastard of a thing to find in Australia. How you all going?

    Cheers
