i need an exhaust sytem for my xs500 and i found jemco makes exhaust systmes for xs650s. But im not sure whether these parts are interchangeable. Tried looking online but no luck. I tried contacting jemco if they know about fitment but they're not familiar with xs500s and not sure of the exact measurements for fitment:( Does anyone know if the exhaust for an xs650 is compatible with an xs500? Any knowledgeable gurus out there that can help? Thanks.

Got the damn swing arm off. I'll need a new swing arm shaft, threads are toast after the pounding, and there is surface pitting all over it. I'll probably be converting the swing arm to needle bearings instead of using bushings again.
Just a recomendation for future when removing any shaft or bolt with a hammer put the nut back on but dont screw it in all the way so when you hit the end of the shaft/bolt you are hitting the nut insted and not the end of the bolt this will help with keeping the thred in good condition.

You are correct, mine is a 1976.
So, the engine on your bike is quiet? It doesn't sound like it needs a valve and timing chain adjust?
Thanks.
Don
im no expert but i dont think so
the cam chain tensioner on these bikes have a plastic surface which gets brittle over time just have a look.

triple tap

Unable to find any specs on the stock gauges i just assumed that the ones on mikesXS would work, we'll find out if that is correct this spring. Be warned that the ones on mikesXS are significantly smaller in diameter than stock.
anygague from a xs650 will work i have done this with my xs500c and has been speed tested with gps. also have fun pulling them apart as they are a sealed unit you need to pry them very slowly like a tin can.
use ebay and mix n match componants.
good luck mate.

mine is sort of similar but it is a loos baffle on the right exhaust.
the 1975 xs500 is an xs500b i thought?

...Unfortunately Newtronic went out of business. I've been looking for an electronic ignition for my XS500 for about a year now and have had no luck.

thanks Drewps
I'll check that out. I know I've done nothing with the timing yet.
I'll let you know what happens.

Has anyone noticed that the XS650 ignition system is run off the end of the camshaft and the TX/XS 500 is run from a secondary shaft running off the crankshaft the logistical differences between the 2 are large. years ago the light sourced ignition systems (which sort of retained the points, less burn,) could interchange but modern CD!/TCI would have loads of problems .... Sorry Drewps for replying to your post but it was one of the shorter ones !
Regards Jim
well i think i have the answer check this link out
