  1. awhile back i had a problem with all the electrics as the back indicator had been smashed so didnt work then everything stopped working, discovered that all the wires under the seat had melted together( shorted out from indicator i think) so after hours and many lenths of wire fixed all the wires so everything works fine now, horn, alarm, lights ect.

the problem now is the neutral light and oil light dont work anymore, iv looked at all the rest of the wires under the seat and headlight but there all fine, could it be anything to do with a relay or something, or whatever detects its in neutral from the gearbox? thanks 4 anyhelp in advance

do the neutral and oil light both sit in the same clock, also you checked the bulbs - there not blown are they ?

  2. is the swing are tubular or square section ?

is it CDI or point managed ..

does it still have the LH side lighting switch intact

on the left hand side of the bike, just above where the side stand meets the bike, there should be a small silver box, this should be the regulator - does it stanley or anything on it, any part nos ..

under the engine (near kick start) and on the frame (near headstock) there should be some number .. what are the 1st four of them (hopefully they will match)

  3. There is quite a lot you can do, I guess you have no pics. Sadly there aren't many DT forums out there, although there is some banter and good help on the thumper website (XT500 lads).

My experience is on the DT400 and DT175 range,

    Is it 6v or 12v

    twin or mono shock

how many positions on the ignition switch two or four

if you look in the headlight, how many bulbs can you see

I guess it has a MDI unit and not points

  4. s'pose it is a how long is a piece of string, but how much does it cost to prepare and powder coat a frame and swing arm ?

saw it done on the telly with wheel for a vintage car . . looks quite hard work so guess it is expensive. Also not knowing anything about the process are the different types of coating and is there anything to watch out for ?

and is it specialist for bikes or will I get a similar result from anyone I pull out of the yellow pages ?
