    I cannot find a ref on the net to a 4E4 Xs650S or SE the code I found where 3L1,4G7,5E6 but if you have a better reference could you send a link to it ... Just checked the copy of the V5 doc for my XS650S (I've copied every single bike I've owned and that shows a 3L1 number

    My references are the factory supplied books that I received from Yamaha when I was a Yamaha Agent.

    I have looked at the list of manuals and parts list catalogues and believe that XS650SE has several prefix codes they are: 2M0 / 2M1 / 4G7 / 3L1 / 467 / 5E6 (depending on year and country)

    The XS650 is: 1V2 / 1E1 / 1H1 / 1U3 / 3T4 / 39G

    The XS650E is: 2F0 / 2G6

    The XS650 Special is: 4E4

As it's going concern perhaps you could up the ante a bit from the £200 I first mentioned it will depend on how much resto work is needed ( I have just done an FS1 cost to buy £140, restoration cost is sat at about £500 and I still have not finished) without seeing it, it is difficult to value £400 maybe in order ...

    The modal you are looking at is an XS650S and not SE and from memory the modal code is 3L1. As this modal is more rare than the SE version you may find a fully restored one is worth a bit of money have a look at this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-XS650se_W0QQi...A1%7C240%3A1318.

    £870 at the moment and not in original colours

  4. Replacing piston rings on 1974 DT 125 and all the sets I've found on Ebay are 2 or 3 sizes over. I don't think I need bigger rings--but how do I really know? I have the manual and it explains measuring the cylinder--but I am still confused. I just wonder what's the simplest way to find out what size I do need? And why aren't the standard sets out there? They are all oversized. Thanks

    I have one boxed DT 125 1st o/s piston,pin,rings and circlips. 1st o/s is 0.25mm

    As Mervin said, the pistons should be stamped to show the o/s, (if standard size they will have a part number stamed on them instaed) if not then you need an internal micrometer to measure the bore. You also need to evaluate the situation to determine what size you need as the cylinder could be worn or scored.

    Ideally you need to take this to somebody who knows what they are doing as you cannot explain these things over the internet.

  5. Hiya guys n gals...could I possibly pick your brains here for a moment?

    My R6 is currently shod in Michelin Pilot Sports tyres..... backs wearing a tad low now so Im thinking of sorting replacements...whats your thoughts on these tyres? Dunno whether to stick to the same or whether you reckon something else is better. I dont commute on this bike, purely a fair weather biker on this :unsure:

    Any thoughts / recommendations appreciated..

    I say Bridgestone.

    But everyone to their own.

  6. Nope, it's not bent. I took the inner cable all of the way out and put it back in again. I'll be getting some grease and seeing if that helps.

    i got a track day soon so i want to stock up on wet tyres

    We found that Bridgestones were the best, Michelin and Dunlop were ok
