  1. Alright, I appreciate all the help from last time... so let's see if it works again. I have a 79 XS750. The guy before me removed the air box and put the "pods" on it while also re-jetting it.

    His set up:

    Main Jets: 137.5

    Pilot Jet: 42.5

    Needle: Slot 3

With this set up I had issues with it idling down and when you rolled through on the throttle it would bog down. Thus, I read on another forum that there could be a couple issues. They recommended the jets increased/needle movement.

    New set up:

    Main Jets: 157.5

    Pilot Jets: 42.5

    Needle: Slot 2

I replaced the main jets with larger ones to let more fuel through, but left the pilots the same because I didn't have any extras laying around. Next, I thought the idling issue may be due to the needle placement... so I lowered them one slot to see if more fuel would be available and it wouldn't die out.

After riding it... the new jets seem to help with the pick up and our fuel that is getting fed into the carbs... my question is that the bike won't idle down at all. It stays idol for about 3 or 4 secs than dies like it's not getting fuel. I tried to adjust the idle screw, but when I do that it just idles way to high. I was hoping anyone had suggestions. Unfortunately, going back to the stock air box is out of the question I would like to keep what I have. Also, the carbs are Mikuni BS34's. Thanks for the help in advance!

  2. Wow, thanks for the quick reply and great advice. I will stop by today and get one. Much appreciated.

I think that is the vent tube for the crankcase, not a vacuum tube. Originally, it would have been attached to the intake track but since the original air boxes have been ditched, there is nowhere to attach it. Any small air filter or oil breather that fit it would be a good idea. An auto parts store should have something to fit. It will spew oil if you overfill the crankcase, but otherwise it just vents. It would be good to have some way of keeping dust out of there.

  3. I just recently bought a 79 XS 750. They guy before me switched it to the air pod filter coming off the carbs (Mukuni) My question is.... there is about a foot long, 3/4" vacuum tube (I assume) coming off of the engine block (by the oil cap) that is not blocked off or attached to anything. Where should this go? I think it probably attaches to the air box/filter, but there is not one since he had switched it over. What do I do? THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!

  4. Same thing happened to me, however only the front light would turn on, rear wouldn't, and no blinking.

The problem was in the frayed wires and lack of a consistent ground. So I took the rear blinkers off, completely rewired them down to the sockets. All my connections were soldiered, wrapped, heat shrink tubed. Doing this fixed one side of the bike but the other still had issues. I traced it to the seam between the blinker housing and extension rod. It was loose and since the grounding runs through the metal housing itself, I was getting poor conductivity. A small stitch weld, on the bottom of the blinker, joining the 2 parts of the assembly fixed that right up. Cosmetically it is unnoticeable. I'm not concerned as I have bigger plans for the rear of the bike anyhow.

Yes.... when I flick the turn signal switch I can hear the relay click! Is that good? I will look into the grounding issue.

  5. I have an 79 XS 750 special. This is what is happening:

    1) Turn signals turn on (Front/Back) but do NOT flash.

I have tried replacing the flasher relay, but that did not seem to help.

Does anyone have any suggestions in what I can try and or what is wrong?

    THANKS!

  6. Alright, so I have had some issues with my wiring, but I ordered a new harness and I have everything ALMOST fixed. Just a couple small errors I was hoping someone had some suggestions on.

    1) All of my signals work (Front/Back - Left/Right) , but they won't flash when signaling... could this be an error with my flasher relay?

    2) All of my gauges (neutral/oil/signal) etc work when the key is turned on, but the headlight will not turn on.. Neither high beam/low beam. Now I know the head light works because I attached it to the battery and I got a high and low beam to turn on. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

  7. I was hoping someone would be able to help me. I purchased a 79 750 this past winter and have been working on it ever since. I recently ran into an issue with the headlight unit. When I took off the headlight I found that the guy had hard wired the "high" beam directly into the battery so I was not able to shift from high to low beam. After redoing a majority of the wiring I was able to battery test the headlight and it still works great. Now, my high beam indicator is connected, but the plug that goes into the headlight has a yellow and green coming off of it (I am assuming a low and high beam) that needs power. Unfortunately there are no other wires in the head light and I was wondering if the guy had removed them. Where is the incoming source of power suppose to be from? Thanks --
