  1. I am changing the handlebars on my 1986 FJ1200. When I removed the throttle cable housing, I realized that one of the cables is frayed and about to break. The cable that is frayed is the one towards the rear of the bike. Is this considered the push cable? I just want to make sure that I purchase the right one. Thanks for any replies.
  2. I am confused with what my manual says about changing fork seals. Is this considered a full rebuilt and is this difficult to do? Also, should I do both or just the one that is leaking? I read somewhere that there are two ways of going about changing them. "Either remove the fork leg down through the yokes and replace the seal from the top or undo the Allen bolt at the bottom of the slider and remove the sliders from the stanchions." What are the pros and cons of both of these? Any replies would be appreciated.
  3. I had to remove the cylinder cover on my 1986 FJ1200 because three off the bolts were leaking a little oil. Is there anything I should watch for when replacing the gasket and bolt gaskets? Also, is there anything I should check or have checked while I have the cover removed? Thanks for any replies.
  4. I got my carbs back from rebuild for my 1986 FJ1200 and got the bike running. I rode it around a parking lot next to my house, but noticed if you turn either direction hard enough, the levers hit the front fairing. Is this normal on an FJ? It seems to me like this could cause a very dangerous situation. Any comments would be appreciated.
  5. I removed the headers off my 1986 FJ1200. I wire brushed them the best I can to remove the rust. Is there anything I can wash them down with to get them ready for paint like carb clean or paint thinner? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  6. Update to post: I installed the air filters and got the bike running. After letting it warm up for quite a while I was able to shut the choke off and the throttle is working fine. It is idling very high. How do I turn the idle down? I have looked in my manual, but it was a little confusing with all the different carb adjustments.
  7. I just bought a 1986 FJ1200. The bike had sat for a long time, so I had the carbs rebuilt and installed them on the bike. I didn't put the air filters on yet, I just wanted to see if it would run. The bike would run with the choke on full, however, it would stall if I tried to close the choke or turn the throttle. I am going to install the filters now, is there anything else I should do while I have the tank off, or should I just install the filters and then see how that affects the choke and throttle? The bike has the K&N single filters. Thanks for any replies.
  8. The rims on the 86 1200 I just bought are painted. Is there a way to strip the paint without taking the rim off the bike? I know it would be easier if they was off but I have so many other projects going on this bike. I am wondering if some type of paint stripper would work or will that hurt the rims? Thanks.
  9. The 86 FJ 1200 I just bought has the V&H exhaust. The back half of the exhaust is ok, but the front half out of the motor is rusted. First off I'm sure I'll have trouble getting the bolts off, but how do I get rid of the rust and what do I do to the pipes once I get rid of it? Thanks
  10. To me right now the 86 FJ 1200 I just got is about the best bike I can think of. My old 82 Seca 650 Turbo wasn't to bad in its day either.
  11. Years ago I had a 1982 Seca 650 Turbo, but I have been out of biking for some time. I just bought this 1986 FJ 1200. It came with the stock seat and a Corbin seat, a Vance & Hines exhaust, new front and rear Michelin tires, and K&N individual air filters. I know it needs the carbs rebuilt. After that I'm hoping just some TLC. I paid $1100 for it and I would appreciate some feedback good or bad about the bike.
  12. What do you guys use to clean fiberglass fairings. Mine look dirty, but it doesn't just wipe off.
  13. I just bought a 1986 FJ 1200. I havn't heard it run with its carb on, but it ran great with a carb from a Legends car on it. I am going to put the carb back on so I can at least hear it before I send the carb out for rebuild. My question is, can I spray the heck out of the carb with carb cleaner before reinstalling, or will that possibly harm something? Thanks

    Title Question

It is stamped or printed right on top of the title itself right under the bikes information, but right above the owner and Liens section.

    Title Question

I just bought a 1986 FJ 1200. What does it mean when the title is stamped in big bold letters" REBUILT TRUE MILEAGE UNKNOWN" ? Does anyone know if I will have a problem registering the bike with this title? Thanks
