  1. I'm thinking the same with my Resto, but have come to the conclusion that if it ain't broke why try and fix it.

If you decide to go for it then Yambits and Wemoto on Ebay have various parts like Gasket kits that arn't too expensive.

But if its running right I would save the hassle of a strip down until it was needed.

    Hope that helps,

  2. 5 wires doesn't sound enough, from what I've read there should be either 5 or 6, read this Here

You've pulled it out of the bag again oldgitonabike!!!!!! The single source coil that I have needs a 6 wire CDI. I had read that post a little while ago, but had forgotten about it.

My next problem will be where my missing wire from the magneto has gone. I will get hold of a manual with a wiring diagram in it, which should help.(i bought the wrong one by mistake).

Anyway thanks again for you input as it has clarified another issue.

    Kind regards,

  3. Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help with the problem of which CDI I need for my bike. Unfortunately the bike is a non runner and came without one, and as I gather there are more than one type, I thought I had better check before I splash out.

My engine is 1979 but the magneto has only 5 wires coming from it, and only one source coil (contrary to what the parts book says I should have) which makes wonder if I have a magneto from a different year, I don't know if this will be a problem or whether I just need to match the CDI to it.

Does anyone know anything about this.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Regards,

  4. Taffny, that isnt your engine number, you got that from the barrel didnt you?

Your engine number is on the RH crankcase next to where the clutch cover is

This number should match the number on the frame steering head tube

    Thanks for replying,

I'll have a look at the crankcase when i get to work on Monday, and post what i find.

    Cheers,

    Taffny

  5. Hi all,

I have just bought a non running DT175 on a 79 chassis, I believe though that the engine is from a different year. I'm not sure whether this will cause problems or not, but i need to get a CDI for it, so when I find one it needs to be the right one.

The Source coils are there and there are 6 wires from them. The only marks i can find on the engine are:

    2A700

    171CC

I'm wondering if the 2A700 is an identification No. or serial No. i would hope that it means something.

Anybody have any ideas about the year, also if there will be issues later in the resto with matching different engine to frame, that may trip me up? (it mounts ok)

Any help will be gratefully received

  6. Hi all,

Just to say hello, and let you know what I will be picking your brains for  during the next few months of the restoration.

I have just acquired a non running 1979 DT175MX, it needs plenty of work to get it to its former glory, but I am looking forward to getting it mint.

I have been reading the posts recently to get the bumf on what to look for which has helped alot. There is clearly a lot of knowledge out there, and hopefully as I get further into the restoration I will be able to add to it.

    Anyway,

See you all on the forum,

    Taffny. :D
