As in the title has anyone got the correct float height for a ybr125 05 vm22 carb, cheers
-
+1
Sounds to me too as if the carb is full with dirt. It must be the MIKUNI VM22 or isn't it?
You can see how to right here.

ive just come from a bike shop and they have sold me a fuel filter to put in the fuel line and told me that taking the carb apart and putting back together can be a bit fiddly. As someone who's never done it before, is it do-able, i'd hate to screw it up. Not sure what model of carb it is, will have a look tomorrow, if it is the MIKUNI VM22 cheers for the link that will come in very handy.

so does it start from cold with no choke and fails to start warm/hot ?
it acts the same when cold and and warmed up. I eventually got it started today(cold) with no choke but had to use choke to keep it going. Sometimes ive used choke to get it started(warm) and sometimes not. There doesn't seem to be any set pattern other than 9/10 it takes ages to get it started. Last tuesday i used choke(cold) and it started with one press of the button, later on that day(cold) it wouldn't start for ages. All i can think of is that something in the carb is most of the time stuck/blocked and sometimes unstuck/unblocked, so i reckon a good clean is the next step.

Low compression would give you poor performance when it was running but you could test it quite easy (£7.99 on ebay for a tester). do I get this right the bike starts from cold without choke and not at all when hot ? if this is the case try starting the engine with full throttle if then the bike starts you have a carb problem. time to strip the carb out !
The bike doesn't start easliy when cold or when warmed up. I believe you're right about the carb and intend to take it apart and give it a ruddy good clean as soon as i get a chance, but for now i'll have to battle on, joy.

is your bike fi or does it have a carb ?
It has a carb. Ive just been talking to another mate and he says it sounds like the compression is low, wot d'ya reckon

Had similar problems with ttr125's, try cleaning the air filter. May sound daft but it worked with the ttr's.
ive done this as well, but cheers for suggestion.

ybr 125 05 plate
Tried again this morning, finally got it going and let it run for 20 mins and also adjusted idle as it was a little low. There is also an occasional backfire when revved up to 5-6k revs, just a stab in the the dark but would this tie in with the poor starting, if so how can i fix it?

When bike has been left for a while (couple of hours), it takes ages to start, have to use both button start and kick start to finally get it going. Spoke to a friend today he told me to check spark plug, its fine and sparks when start button pressed. He then said to remove air filter from carb, place hand over air inlet and see if it starts, it doesnt, which means theres no split in carb casing. He then suggested jump starting via car to see if battery is problem, bike turned over quicker but didnt start, so battery isnt problem. I then tried starting it with choke in and it started, i thought yeh dont use choke to start it. I then let it run for a bit (10 mins) to warm up and turned it off. I then tried to start it feeling pretty confident, bloody thing wouldnt start. Button a few times, kick start a few times, it starts again. I let it run for a bit occasionally giving a few more revs, then turned it off. Tried to start it, no joy .
What the bloody hell is going on, can someone please help me

make sure that the bulbs are the correct wattage

The reason for the taps originally was for the Gravity Fed fuel system... If you leave it open in some cases it can flood.
Might as well turn it off if you know your not going to use it for a few hours... But, don't forget to turn it back on!
I did just that when i finished in gym. The battery nearly went flat before i realised i'd left the switch in the off position
-
ive got a bike with a on/off/reserve fuel switch. Im a newbie and was wondering if it is supposed to be in the off position when not in use (couple of hours while at gym and overnight). Does it matter if i leave it in the on position?

any ideas?

Hello everyone
I have been riding a 125 Yamaha Cygnus for just over a year but can't resist getting a geared bike any longer so I'm looking to buy a used YBR. I use it for doing small journeys; rarely more than 20 miles or so.
I have no experience buying vehicles second-hand so can anybody give me any tips, or advice on what to check for?
I've heard that the YBR can suffer from rust, is there anything else specific that you would recommend I look out for? Any general advice would be great too!
Thanks and happy riding,
Ryan
before you buy 1 make sure you have a ride on it, the gearboxes on ybr's can be a pain in the ass, i know, ive got one.

What does your neutral light do whil all this is going on? is it ON when the bike wont start? or does it come on when you move the wheel?
The neutral light is on throughout
-
that is a very wierd problem. I would definantely take it to a dealer. Could it be that when your moving the back wheel you are nudging the spark plug cable completing a bad connection?
im standing the other side when i turn the wheel
-
At the clutch lever where the cable is fixed you will see an adjuster with a locking ring. slacken the locking ring and turn the adjuster until there is no free play in the lever, then screw in (clockwise) the adjuster 1/2 turn. finally re tighten the locking ring. You should now have just a little free play in the lever.
Ok, cool thank you for your help, not knowing can be a pain in the rear end, cheers
-
Yes it does seem quite common with this bike, the best you can do is adjust the clutch properly and ensure that the correct oil is used in the engine
can the adjustment of the clutch be done externally or do i have to dig a bit deeper. Sorry this is my first bike and am a little unsure of it's mechanics
-
1. This always happens to me. At the risk of being beeped at the lights I leave it in first and hold the clutch in at lights.
2. This happens but rarely. I have had this issue on my ybr the same number of times as it jumping out of 2nd into netural. How many miles has your bike done?
3. not sure about this one, does it turn over and not start or not turn over at all?
My bikes done close to 8000 miles (05 plate) and it does turn over but won't start unless i move the back wheel. I initally thought it was the starter motor so tried the kick start, still no joy. I then thought it might be the spark plug but it looks fine and clean.

have a read.
It seems like a fairly common problem with new bikes but mines an 05 with 8000 miles on the clock. Can it be fixed ?

Im having problems with my bike and need a little advice.
1. sometimes when in neutral the gear shift won't go into first unless i roll the bike forwards.
2. sometimes when i take off and then change to second it goes into neutral (even with a good flick of my foot)
3. when i try to start the bike (with neutral light on)it won't, unless i turn the back wheel a little
Could someone suggest the problem, cheers
