    "Hugger"! Well if you study it the hugger does very little except perhaps keep the crud off a monoshock. The problem is that the the wheel is revolving towards the hugger so all the crap just goes up over it! The hugger is in the wrong place! Some of the BMW bikes have a short hugger further round towards the back of the bike ( on an extended arm). This is where such a device should be properly placed. ( Good for them!)

    I fitted a fender extender to my Fazer last week- this a carbon fibre job and only cost 20 quid. They recommend securing with silicon to avoid insightly PKs or bolts and it does seem to fix securely. Sadly, although a fender extender stops muck going up around the top of the fork area it wont be long enough to stop the shit continuing to cover the front pipes. :angry:

  2. hi my bike tends to get verry Sh*tty verry quickly because i ride in all conditions i have cleand it about 5 times in 2 weeks and was wondering how much i should actuly wash my bike and when i say wash i mean thorougly in all the nuts a crannies then i tend to polish the exhaust pipes to stop corosion and use protectant all over the main bits apart from break's

    also what are the best products to use to stop rust and corosion especialy for the exhaust's(Down pipes)

    You could write a book on this one so just a couple of comments. If the headers are SS then dont attack them with wire wool. The millions of small scratches encourage further corrosion. I learned this one too late. Clean with a one of the propriety metal cleaners. If that is ineffective because the staining is too bad them get Hein Gericke's Optiglanz. ACF 50 claims to inhibit downpipe corrosion.

    How often you clean the bike depends on many things but a major factor is the dreaded salt and if it gets on the bike get it off as quick as you can. Wash it but dont use warm water as that encourages corroding.

    As for the full monty as often as you can wothout getting totally fed up with it. PPL have given up biking because of the need to clean the bloody things!!! Finally, the design of most modern bikes renders them unsuitable for outdoor use and should be only ridden indoors anyway! I use an Yamaha SR 400 for work with full mudguards, guard plate on the downtube and front mudflap so no crap gets on the bike except inside the mudguards where it belongs. Best end now I think!

  3. Well pretty subjective stuff!!!

    I guess the main difference is in the Torque curve- the xjr delivering more torque earlier. Also , on a scale 1-10 for handling, where the xjr would score 0 the fazer 10 !!The FZ1 Fazer is manic at the higher speeds which seems to be what u need. When you say 'full fairing' do you mean the FZ1 fazer with the lowers fitted? They aren't really necessary. The following link will give some idea of its performance in the upper rev range. Remember the 70 speed limit though!

  4. As for shorts I wear them. My natural body temp is 100.2. So i'm always hot and it sucks. I do ride with shin guards and knee pads just in case. Not to mention I live in brunswick georgia and it's HOT here.

    As for riding like a "twat" i don't know what that is. But when the speed limit is 50 mph and you and your friend are having a conversation at 45 mhp and i'm behind you. All I got to say is watch out. Cause i'm commin straight up the middle. Besides if you're over 65 you don't need a damn license. there's no road from your bed room to the kitchen.

    This thread has become a bit tedious but briefly mention I think we are very safety conscious in UK. Just back from france and italy playing spot the Brits. Easy they are the ones in the protective gear sweating their nads off. Everyone else is in shorts and short sleeved shirts or similar and that includes on the motorways. The biker police do not wear protective gear either just helmets. Seriously, the risk of heatstroke has to be considered and the ability to ride must be impaired by being so hot with all that gear so whats the answer. They are all wrong- no i dont think so! Certianly blown away my conviction on wearing all the gear- at least in that heat.

  5. hope i have read this right . Give do 2 racks for the top box to fit on , but the box should fit straight onto both.

    when i changed from a XJR to an FJR i could not use the wing rack system had to go for the Tubular set up. it has a different topbox holder.

    i take it its a new fitting kit for thr model you have used {just have to ask}.and its a new box holder.

    if it is contact Givi and ask, the part would be cheaper new luggage

    Thanks for this- i emailed Givi and their reply was to the effect that their cases fitted their plates. A rather inane reply. The link you give shows the position exactly. The larger pic shows the plate with like 2 hooks type fit like the one i took off my Cb1300 (about 3 years old). the plate marked MM is just like the one fitted new yesterday and has a long slot so my monokey (monkey?)box doesn't fit. I have solved the problem just now because both plates have the same fit to the monorack so i have just switched them over. but why the different plates- i mean what reason. I know my 46 ltr case is above the givi recommend for the fazer FZ1 (37 ltr) perhaps its something to do with that. This has become rather like extolling the virtues of different kinds of shovel so I will leave it at that and at least now have the box for our trip out at the weekend. Lets hope there is no stability problem. Once again tnx.

  6. i purchased a new 2008 FZ1N last week , i havent had the chance to ride it much . once run in , i'll run it through its paces . but my question is , what top speed are other members getting out of theirs ? hows their overall performance ? i'd certainly hope it can reach 260kph ?

  7. Had a 2008 FZ1 Fazer for about 1 month and previous bike had Givi monorack and topbox. So today new Givi monorack and plate fitted to fazer. I notice Givi whilst not explaining why say monoraqck only with MSM plate-whatever that is? Upshot my old case doesn't fit but oddly 'proper' yamaha topbox off wifes FZ6 fits OK!! So it appears to accommodate the yamaha boxes. Does anyone know about this and what other than Yam and Givi boxes will fit? Preferably cheaper ones as i only use the box twice a year. Thanks.

  8. Anyone recommend a good disc lock for the YZF R125 please. I like the look of XENA, but tried the template and none looked like they fitted...

    It is nice if you have no alarm to have an alarmed disk lock. It also saves having the silly peice of plastic up to the handlebars to remind you to remove it. If you should forget and move the bike the alarm goes off. Are u sure the xena verssion wont fit ?

  9. I am posting this enquiry here hoping actual owners of the FZ1/fazer can help! I have been trying to find a performance test of the bike showing acceleration, top speed and torque and bhp graphs. Cant find one anywhere. In particular for comparison purposes what is the 0-60 figure/ some one must know(hopefully) Thanks.

  10. I hope I am posting in the right place. I am not yet the owner of a Yamaha but my wife has a Fazer FZ6. I am poised to buy a FZ1 but am put off by several reports of snatchiness on reopening the throttle after closing at around 4000rph.

    I have been riding a 2004 Cb1300 and that is snatchy on take up so I dont really do 'snatchy' any more-fed up with it!

    So does the 2008 Fazer still have this problem? Also I am used to galloping up to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds on the CB any idea the corresponding figure for the Fazer FZ1 I can't see it quoted anywhere. Any help on this and any other comments will be most appreciated.

    PS Sorry I do have a Yamaha- a SR400 imported from Japan, nearly forgot!!!!
