  1. I haven't gotten the horn yet but as you guys may know the XT is a kick start. It really doesn't have a lot of battery. I was wondering if the thing would power the horn. I think it draws 18 amps but only for a moment. I would think it would especially since it would be running when the horn was used but ya never know. If anyone has put one on an XT or the like please let me know how you made out. I am still lookin for a place to put the thing. I may take off the right "air duct" and just put it where the original horn is.
  2. It may sound kinda bumb, no punn intended, but has anyone installed one of these air horns on the ole xt? I use the bike for a few things and one is transportation while camping. On some of the more traveled roads there are a few people that don't bother to check the mirrors before they pull out. Anyway has anyone put one of these things on their xt and if so where did you put it and how did it work out? thanks
  3. Ok thanks. I didn't know if I was going to create more problems than I was correcting. I take this bike camping all the time on the back of my camper. We spend quite a bit of time around salt air. There in lies the problem. The only thing I could think of was to paint the darn things. Are the materials you mentioned available at a hardware store or are these more like body shop supplies?
  4. I have an ole xt350. The spokes are rusting. I have cleaned and waxed the spokes but the rust comes back pretty quickly. I was wondering if anyone has painted the spokes. If so what did you use? Did you brush or spray it on? Thanks for the help Gary
  5. Thanks Nev Yeah I really haven't looked at it yet but plan to tomorrow. Just wondered if these things had any problems other than the normal when fuel is on the floor. I guess that's the price you pay, once in a while, for not shutting off the fuel. LOL I got this bike a while back with 6K on it. Other than change the oil and lube the suspension I really haven't done a thing to it. Oh yea I put one plug in it once. LOL Looks like we are almost neighbors. I grew up in Media and live in Souderton, just north of Lansdale, now.
  6. I have an 89 XT350 with about 16k on it. I put her in the garage and went out of town for a day. When I got back she was sitting on a very damp area of concrete. The carbs had leaked. Ok I figure the needle valves stuck or some such thing. I haven't looked at it yet but am wondering if there is any particular thing these things do that I should look for? She ran great so I would like to do as little messin with it as I can. I am wondering if I take the bowels off and squirt some carb cleaner in there if that may do the trick? thanks Gary
  7. Where is a good place to get a tail light lens for an 89 xt350? thanks
  8. Yeah that is probably it. I guess I was wondering if there is a rebuild kit for the master cylinder or if the parts are just 0 rings I can get at the hardware store. If I need a kit where do I get it? thanks
  9. These guys maybe right. Do the simple stuff first. You can always tear into the motor if you have to. Remember there is a compression release on the 350. This will make it apper that the compression is low. If it ran when you put it away it didn't wear in storage. Yes the rings could be sticking but try tilting the bike and then starter fluid first. Most of the time its the simple stuff. Again they can be right but if you try what I suggested it costs nothing, not much work and it just may start. Of course no one knows the the condition of the bike but it sounds exactly what mine does when I let it sit. Even a week or so. The engine is pretty bullet proof. Not to say there isn't something wrong but if it ran last year I would bet it will this year.
  10. It has been gettin worse all the time but over a couple of years. I took er out this morning and the brake lever will go all the way to the grip and really doesn't put much pressure on the brake. Now I really haven't looked into it to deeply but the reservoir if full. It may have air in the line I haven't bled it yet. Is there a rebuild kit for the brake lever, plunger or master cylinder? What do ya think it the most likely cause of the weak brake? thanks for the help
  11. I have the same problem if I let the bike sit for a while. There are a couple of things you can do considering the bike will run but is hard to start. The first thing is to lay the bike over on the left side until fuel runs out of the carb overflow. I then pull the choke and kick it over about 10 times. After that I turn on the ignition and try to start her.. Now if that still doesn't work try some starter fluid. Take the right side cover off. Look in there at the air intake, its in the middle just behind the wheel. Now squirt some starter fluid in there. Now with the choke and ignition on try to start er. That should do it considering you have spark, fuel and compression. It isn't hard to kick over. In fact it's pretty easy. Also remember the ole 350 is cold blooded. Keep the choke on for a while. Hope this helps Gary
  12. Any ideas why I jumped on my bike this afternoon and I have no turn signals. No lights no blinkers nothin. The stop light works as well as the head light. Just no turn signals. Not even a light in the instrument panel. They just stopped. Anyone know of a common cause for this problem on this bike? It could be a fuse but where in the heck is it? Thanks Gary
