  1. I'm taking my test early next month but won't be buying my bike until next year.. but I'm having trouble deciding what to get. My mind was firmly set of getting the R125 but some of my friends have said to get something bigger and restrict it and others have said stick with a small bike.

I'll probably be doing a bit of traveling on it..work is 65 miles from where I live and is mostly duel carriageway and a bit of back roads. Being only 5'4" I need to find something I will be able to reach the floor on!!!

I love the look of the R125 but the engine sound is a little disappointing from what I've heard so far.. And with the Aprilias..well I haven't ever really been a fan of the fact they scream their heads off!

Does anybody have any opinions or ideas?

You will kill a 125 doing that kind of mileage on it, far better to get a restricted 500 / 600

  2. Last year in TWO magazine we ran a feature called 'Turf Wars'. The aim was to find which group of 1000cc sportsbike riders was the best. After a couple of prelim rounds at Boxhill, the final was held at Bruntingthorpe where all the riders got to go nuts for a day (longest wheelie, top speed, drag racing, etc). It was a load of fun and we are planning this years round.

We're hoping to do something similar but with 600cc riders this time.

If you have an R6 (any model) and are interested, could you get in contact please?

(We're also after ZX6Rs, GSXR600s and CBR600 if you know anyone with one who might be interested).

If your up for a laugh and fancy getting involved can you send an email to [email protected] please?

    Cheers

Maybe I could change the stickers on my R1 and join in the fun

  3. Perhaps, if you discover it, you might be willing to post thier address on here too.

Maybe they'd get a visitor or two, for a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake

and a taxi to A&E for a few days with the :nurse:

especially if they have my stolen black blade in their possession (LC06 ZTJ)

  4. well after searching around, im close to doing my test and am going to get a big bike

i have been looking around for ages, but insurance is always a issue.

I have bought a limited edition bike

    Moto Guzzi 750 Twin

its abit of a step up from a ybr but i have had past experience with big bikes, as i am re building a honda hornet.

so i will be getting that sorted up soon and on the road.

    its not a cruiser

    its a road bike

Will be nice to have a rarer bike that you dont see at every meet, enjoy

i would like to see what you think about it

  5. Welcome, Midnite.

You may have a lot of bother with insurance, I think. As an example, I returned to biking after a 12 year absence, rode a TDM for 3 years then went for an R6. Despite having no claims, some insurance said they wouldn't insure me, even at 43 years. The reason "We don't consider the TDM to have given you suitable experience for an R6". Twats. Still, I did get insurance (thanks to Carole Nash), so that was all right.

As far as getting an R6 for a first bike? Noooooooooo!! (in my opinion). It's a lairy bike to start with, the pre-2004 models especially so. If you want something that sort of size, I would rather recommend the 600 Fazer. Decent handling and economy, plenty of poke for a first timer and, because it's not an arse rocket, unlikely to worry those nice insurance people.

I had a CBR 600f as my 1st bike for 18 months and it was a great 1st bike so highly recommended.

As for the insurance, shouldnt be a problem if you knw the right people (wink wink)

  6. I got stoped the other day for my plate on me r6 and that gave him a chance to have a good look at every think he could lay his eyes on .

gave me a good telling off and said he could give me 3 points for the plate 3 for me can but i just played dum and said sorry i didnt no and thats how it came LOL :D

    so i got a £30 fine and a good telling off ....

I have insured many people over the years with convictions but have never come across anyone getting points for a plate, a fine is rare but does happen and you usually have to get the plate changed and a form stamped by an mot centre to confirm that the bike is now "road legal"

  7. I'll have a look into doing that...

I think for peace of mind having some sort of imoveable object to lock the bike to would be all i can do!

If it didnt take 10mins to get the back in and 10mins to get the bike out i'd have it in the house too ;)

    Thanks,

    Tom

One more valuable piece of information, keep the keys to your bike , shed , locks etc very well hidden or locked away, I got burgled last year and despite my garage being like fort knox once they had the keys taking the bike was easy, they are now locked in a combination saf when not in use but too little too late

  8. Hi, be very cautious buying off ebay from someone you dont know and them delicering the bike, far better to go and see it at their house first making sure the address matches the V5 then get them to deliver it if you are happy

  9. hello all. R there any 1988 FZ600 owners out there who can tell me where i can get a complete fairing from. Riding around naked, keep getting stopped by the "bizzies".

you must be mad riding round naked, I know some people dont have leathers but your taking risks!!!

  10. Scum bags have been at it again, In the early hrs of Friday 13th June 2006 Black r6 was stolen from mates house in the Trent Vale area of Stoke on Trent. Bike is immaculate lots of extras, one off graphics just amazing.

    Bike details as follows

    VIN JYARJ111000008186

    ENGINE NUMBER J511E0008961

    REGISTRATION NK06 NEN

Any information would be most appreciated pls mail me here or contact Jim on 07896161958

    Many thanks

B*stards hope they fall off. Mine got nicked last year so know how it feels

  11. Not sure if you got my message but as I said give me a buzz and im sure I can get you a good deal, got 20 years experience and am especially good on higher risk stuff such as young riders, big bikes or accidents & convictions

  12. An R6 of that vintage without a good engine won't be worth much more than £800/£1000.

As previously stated it's much better to spend out on your engine and know where you are than spend as much on an unknown quantity ;)

I personally wouldnt chance buying a 2nd hand engine which could just as easily got pop soon after, much better to get yours done

  13. Thank the lord I am an old git..... just returned to biking after 15 years so have no NCB.... I paid £185 fully comp for a XJR1300 with Hastings. Yeah for being 49.

Hi Guys, always happy to help fellow forum members and can usually get a very good price as long as your expectations are realistic, PM me or call me on 01708 380380 and ask for Mike, I am sure you will be happy with the result. Regards, Mike (rightchoiceinsurance)

  14. In the UK, it is a requirement to have provision on your Insurance for carrying a pillion.

From your flag, it appears you are not in the UK, so check your local laws just in case.

Be really careful to begin with,if possible try to take an experienced pillion out 1st as it will help you get used to how it feels, 2 novices together (rider and pillion) can be a recipe for dissaster

  15. I have a positive feedback of 1270 and my account is up for free, there's no way I'm accepting not being able to give a bad buyer negative feedback. Evilbay seems to ignore the fact that if there's no sellers, there's no buyers.

The vast majority of my buyers have been decent and honest people, the small minority have just been complete tw*ts. Why should these idiots be allowed to slag you off without reprisal. :angry2:

I have just had this happen to me,had perfect 100% rating then some idiot bought a blade screen off me & posted some b*llSh*t about me on my feedback and I cant tell the truth back.

To make things worse paypal back the twat, (all for a £10 screen) Iwont be using either again

  16. Hi guys, picked it up today and I have to say that I am very pleased with my new bike.

    Just got home now...

And I would just like to thank Mike for giving me the best insurance deal. Thanx a lot!

So there's no need to look for the "insurance guy", but thanks anyways, really appreciate it.

    Cheers!

    :D

Glad 2b of assistance and happy to sort out a good deal for all the members on here for any type of insurance (car bike home van business etc) pm me or call 01708 380380 if you need my help. Regards Mike

  17. Hi, I have been shopping around the last week or so now for a deal on insurance.

I am now stuck between two of them, which one would you recommend?

I have one year No Claims Bonus at the moment after an accident in 2006.

Now, at the moment I live in a apartment with a communal secure car park under ground and this is where the bike will be kept. Because it’s a car park, the quotes are quite high. Some insurers like Bennets are quoting in the region of £2500!

The best quote so far is:

    Autonet bike insurance -

    One bike Insurance:

      They have no website...
    • £1072
    • -- They claim to protect or "guarantee" my 1 yr NCB - is this possible? I thought 3-4 yrs might be protected...

Do you have any suggestions of where I can get a better deal?

    Thanx in advance

Beware mate, the protected NCB thin is a bit of a con, you can protect it but if you have a claim not many other insurers will accpet you NCB and you will be stuck with a few uncompetitve quotes to choose from.

My advice would be dont protect it, I have over 20 years experience in the game and run my own brokers so you can be sure I know my stuff.

Let me know if I can help you
