  1. Really looking for a quick solution here people. I'm going to the British GP this weekend and i'm taking the missus pillion, so i need a luggage rack to stick the tailpack & tent on.

Phoned Renntec, and they say they couldnt manufacture one for the FZ1 Fazer, but they have done for the FZ1. Now apart from the grab rails, how do the tail of these bikes differ? Looked a Givi topboxes as well just to get the rack, but they require me to butcher the underside plastics, and i aint having that.

Anybody fitted anything that is just a bolt on job? Might need to borrow the father-in-laws FJR at this rate

  2. Thanks Yoda,

The dealer advice did sound a bit suspect but I know some if not all car engines are run in 'on the bed' nowadays

600miles buddy, then the first service. Thats pretty shit advice. Is it a yamaha dealer, & are you getting the 600 mile service free? You should do. Should'nt cost you much more that £35 for the parts i.e oil filter etc.

Oh, and try not to rev it above 7k or have the engine labour in high gears.

  3. i currently have a xjr 13000 had from new 05 model, been on the motorway too mant times hade to hold on for dear life wen the pace gets a little fast i been looking at the new fazer 1000 full faireing ,any members that own them can help me with any good or bad points about the fazer before i buy one.regards mike

I have one, and i absolutley love it! It'll crusie along at any speed you like, or be as bannanas as you like. Really great bike, other than my can, the best addition i've made is a set of wider bars, and coming from an xjr13 you would maybe appreciate that too.

Go for it, you wont be dissapointed ;)

  4. helo james,

i have owned my fazer thou which is an 01 model [done 9000 miles]since Easter and absolutly love it!!

the clunky 1st -2nd gear change is a standard option as far as i know but you get used to it.

around town it is fairly nimble and has shed loads of grunt.it is also real comfy on a run.

all mine has had tweeked is a K & N and Dyno jet kit fitted.had a Dyno run done and it is chucking out just over 130 bhp at thhe wheel.

    BUY AN OLD ONE!

    hope this helps

    Marcus

It's already been said, but the only real difference is in the fuelling. If you buy on 06 make sure it has a power commander.

  5. That is a truely beautiful exhaust you have there - couple of Q's - is it street legal? (I get pulled all the time for stuff and dont want to give them any extra excuses) - and where did you get it (phone # if poss) - and what did it cost to buy and fit - any help appreciated.

Nope, it's not legal, and has a big stamp to prove it

I bought it from www.evotechperformance.com & it cost £300, but got free delivery as my bro in law ordered a can for his blade as well, so gave us the £17 it would have cost off.

  6. I'm with the majority here.

Sportsbikes are hopeless for commuting. That's not to say they can't but it's not their ideal role, plus as I suspect you already know, the insurance will be astronomical.

Avoid the RS bikes like the plague unless you're very VERY clued up on 2 strokes, esp the RS125. They're a maintenance nightmare, temperamental and very sensitive to warm ups, fluids, etc. Blown top ends and motors are common.

As a first bike, I bought and rode for 4 years, a Kawasaki ZR550 Zephyr. Ideal first bike imho, taught me a hell of a lot about riding and about my own capabilities and limitations. Not very glamorous, but true 115mph capable, handles excellently and insurance cheap to reasonable.

Go with a 400-600cc middleweight. Try to avoid sports bikes til later on. My 51 plate FZ600 Fazer is excellent and you can get them very cheap indeed. Even restricted, they'll be good, plus when you de-restrict, you'll get known handling capabilities with more power...a great learning curve. This also applies to other middleweights, Hornet, Bandit, etc - all good machines, cheap to run, very reliable, easy to maintain, comfortable, reasonable insurance and cheap to buy.

If you've got the money, buy a cheap commuter (shafties good...GT550, Deauville, etc) and cut your teeath on those til your restriction is up, then buy your sports bike after that.

Some sound advice there and in some of the other responses. Personally though, i'd steer clear of newer R6's n 600 fazers, as they really like to be reved to make good progress. My first bike was a ZX6R, but a right old one, with a decent riding position so commuting was ok. And like someone said, you WILL fall off (i ditched my zx a couple of times), so better to have something that you mind less about damaging, and can cost less to fix.

650 Bandit, or an SZ650 would be great places to start, and Suzuki's are pretty damn cheap at the moment.

    Good luck anyway.

  7. Hello all - I am new to the forum. Name is Paul, live in Altrincham South Manchester and have just bought a 2003 R6. I am after some advice over what Tail Tidy to get. Having done a quick google search have come up with a few but I can't work out whether you lose the rear indicators or not? Similarly, some seem simple to fit, others require drilling! Before I go and splash out some pennies on this, I would like to know if anyone on here has a tail tidy on a 2003 R6, how hard they were to fit with indicators and where they bought it from?

    Cheers in advance.

check that out. I have an evotech tidy on my fazer, and it's really good quality, n piss easy to fit.

  8. it is just possile that im being slightly thick

but i had to give up with my efforts to fit my R&G tail tidy today

i have broken one of the plastic push in plug thingy (hi tech jargon there)

is there an easy way to get them out ???

    heeellllp!!!!!!

any other tips welcomed (apart from tellin me to take it to the local workshop or never eat yellow snow)

    cj

How is it broken? I'm assumming you know that you can push the center rod all the way through the housing? That should stop it spreading the housing allowing it to come out?

Sorry if thats obvious, but you've not give much detail, so have to start with the obvious ;)

  9. According to the information received with my end can, no re-mapping is required. If you like you could always invest in a power commander, but thats like another £200-£300. They usually come with pre-set maps for certain cans, all information you can find on the end-can manufacturers web sites.

As i said before though, i think my bike runs better now that the valve has gone.

If you havent already, i take up the slack in the throttle as well. Why do the insist on putting the things out the factory with about an eighth of a turn required before you get any response? I hate that shit

As promised, some pictures of the can fitted. Cost £250 in Titanium, or £300 as i have it in black.

  10. Hi guys and girls

I'm new to the forum currently got a CBF1000 but seriously thinking about a fazer thou '08 faired model, so come on persuade me to buy one!!!! I've already got brownie points off the boss she thinks the pillion seat looks v comfortable so thats a def plus. I'm a bit of a dwarf at 5'6" but the seat height looks low enough for me, getting a sit on one this saturday.

It would have to have the hideous exhaust changed and a tail tidy fitted otherwise it looks the dogs bits to me, also got a test ride on the new CB1000R booked but seat height of 828 m/m may be too high for my little legs

Which alarm do you people recommend got a Datatool 4 on my CBF and it does my head in setting itself every 45 secs not even enough time to fill up before its set so need summat with a service mode in it like the Spyballs used to have

Anything else I need to know before I approach my local dealer this weekend??

    Cheers Bill

Hi Bill, i love my 08 Fazer, and have changed the can, and fitted a tail tidy like you said you would, so can point you in the right direction for those. As for height. I'm 5'11 and whilst i can plant my feet firmly on the deck whilst sitting on it, i still find it a fairly tall bike. Pushing it with yer feet whilst actually on it may be a problem for you, but otherwise i think you should be ok.

I thought about the CB1000R myself, but got too good a deal on an official Yamaha to turn down. Having had a go on an R1 & a Firebalde, you can certainly tell the Fazer has a de-tuned engine, but it's no slouch, just not quite as fierce. Power wheelies etc aint quite as simple on the Fazer as the sports bikes, but thats to be expected.

One of the other reasons i went for the Fazer was the missus liked the look of the pillion seat and grab rails too. Shes pregnant now by the way, so wont go on the damn thing anyway lol, but, the one go she did have, she said she felt like she was sitting on her hands quite a bit. If you take your other half pillion alot, i'd suggest she try sitting on it too before you purchase it.

I dont have an alarm fitted, so just the standard Y.I.S.S imobiliser on mine. Cant see me fitting one either.

Biggest niggle for me is the size of the tank. It's only 17 litres, and if your riding it pretty hard, you dont get much more that 120mile 130mile range from the tank. It's not awful, but its meant to be a sports tourer type, and that kind of range dosent exactly cut it.

But i'll say it again, i love my bike :D

I've said in other areas of the forum i'd put up pic's and as yet havent, but will do my best to get this done later today.

  11. The bike is designed to run with the exup valve so what tuning do you have to do if you change the end can?

According to the information received with my end can, no re-mapping is required. If you like you could always invest in a power commander, but thats like another £200-£300. They usually come with pre-set maps for certain cans, all information you can find on the end-can manufacturers web sites.

  12. Good question, I too would like to know.

    ps,@ curlygirl

    Thanks for reply.

It comes off with the can. You just disconnect the cables from the servo under the seat, but leave the servo connected electrically. Job done!

Honestley, it's a very easy process.

I've gound gear changes at low revs are now far smother as well, so it's well worth changing you can.

  13. Good choice, they look dead cool. Look forward to seeing the pics. Which model have you got?

I'm at work at the moment, so cant post a picture, but will asap.

Fitted my Micron at the weekend, and bloody hell is it loud!! I cant actually manage to get the baffle out, but you dont need it. And the popping and banging when you coast down from high revs. Awsome! It's a head turner, most definatley.

Curly girl, i have the FZ1 Fazer, i like a bit of wind protection ;) I am looking for wider bars for it though, and still trying to talk the other half into buying me sergant seats for it, but as yet she aint having it. :D

Back to the original question, no you dont need to remove the entire system to fit a can. The power valve is easily dissconnected from the servo under the seat, allowing the can to come away. You'll get instructions should you buy a can.

  14. hi curlygirl, thats a lovely lookin bike you got there!that remus looks really cool!!! i like black/dark coloured bikes they look so smart.i have the graphite grey/black faired fazer 1000 08,i love it,cant stop riding it! thanks for your help one more thing, did the end can seperate from the rest of the exhaust?or did you replace the whole lot? thanks again james.

I have a micron gp style can coming this week that is supposed to slip straight on. I'll post more details before the weekend for you.

  15. Hey lads, noob here, and yep you've guessed it, my first post is a question.

Treated myself to a brand new FZ1 Fazer in March, and i fecking love my new bike, but it's just not quite an aggrresive enough riding position for me. I want to put wider & straighter bars on, and just wondered if anyone else has done the same yet, and if they could recomend a good set?

Looking to go to something like 750-800mm wide, and no bend. Most set's i've looked at also have a rise in them which is no good, as it'll raise the height of the bars too much, and look crap in my opinion.

What about other mods? I've got my moto gp style micron can coming next week, tail tidy, which is cracking btw (evotech performance), tank pad etc. I'd like a power commander, belly pan and Sargent seats, but over £300 just for the seats is a bit steep. Maybe ask for those as christmas ;)

But yeah, loving my new fazer, although it does sound very mechanical. Is everyone elses the same?

    Cheers,

    Stewart
